Exclamation FRONT bilge pump in 2000 25 Outlaw...

I was looking for a place to run a new stereo remote cable yesterday when I noticed that the step down into the cabin of my OL was loose. I removed it and, lo and behold, I saw a bilge pump broken into two pieces !!! There's a square cutout into that part of your front bilge under that step. I haven't had a chance to trace the (3) wires to see which switch they're hooked up to but at least now I know why the water keeps building up in the cabin floor. I plan to install a new one next week and solve the problem once and for all. Baja mounted it really high so I recommend draining/drying the area and using an adhesive like 5200 to mount the new one all the way at the bottom. Jes*s Chr*st, another Baja mystery solved !! Incidentally, the piece of wood from the hole in the floor was floating in the water..they never removed it ! Tsk tsk tsk !

The three wires are connected to you bilge swith on the dash panel. If you flip the switch down it turns on the rear pump and push the top of the switch down it turns on the front pump.

I think your switch is different than mine(2000 baja 272),my front pump only runs on the float, couldn't get it to come on manually when i was fixing the step,Smitty

My pump setup is the same as articfriends, the bilge pump switch is a two-position on-off switch and it only controls the rear bilge pump but, who knows, the front bilge pump might also run when this switch is turned on...I can't tell right now since it's busted. I'll break out my trusty voltmeter and do some probing. I'll report my findings here.

Angry Re: FRONT bilge pump in 2000 25 Outlaw...

Well, the front bilge pump was broken into two pieces so I bought a new Rule 500GPH auto pump (3 wire). I tested the existing wires and got 2 volts from one, 0 from the other (it pulled right out of the wall since someone had cut it), and realized that I had a bad ground. I ran three new wires, one from the ground side of the fuse box, one from the + side of the fuse box, and one to an unused switch. When all was said and done, the pump started pumping like crazy but the water was just trickling out the side. Since I thought the pump was too weak to pump up such a steep incline (dumb, I know) I bought a Rule 1100GPH pump with the same results ! I thought the hose might be kinked or something so I completely removed the port side couch (yes, all of it) and saw where the hose enters the wall and it was fine. I grabbed my dock's hose and forced it into the hose and all I got was wet. I blew water into the boat from the outside and, voila!, out came the obstruction. It was pieces of wood from when Baja cut the holes in the floor !! I reconnected the pump and everything worked fine. Typical...an hour job takes 5 ! The end result is that I now know how to take the couches apart to get to the fuel filler & vent and I now have a working front bilge pump ! Nothing's easy !
