My boat came with the boxes on it, however,
I've worked on a few with them.
I've pulled the engine, and simply unbolted the
driveshaft flange at the carrier in the box.
And I've replaced a driveshaft through the
side access covers ( yes, you can get to the
crankshaft bolts)
So to answer your question, yes and yes.
But, since you'll have the engine out, connect the
driveshaft to the engine first, then drop it in.

My wife gave me a look and showed me the gps,I chuckled. My stock speedo hasn't worked in years,Smitty

Stellings told me it measures 11 1/4 when fully compressed. Went to local spicer drive shaft shop today with the 34 inch driveshaft and they can put a slip yoke and flange yoke together for me that should compress to 11 1/2 BUT the flange yoke is on 4 month back order in the USA. The next size bigger they could have in a day but it will be 12 1/2 when compressed. What screws it up is these usually have 1350 series u-joints but this driveshaft has 1410 series which is unusually large,Smitty
I'll pull a side cover off tonight and see if I can
get an "accurate" measurement..
Mine are in the middle hole, so I know that they
wouldn't be fully compressed.

Measured it last night.
As close as I can tell, looks to be about 12.75"
from back of flange to flange.
Mind you, this was through the access cover,
the tape measure touching the flyweel near the flange.
I would think that this # would get you close though.
