With Baja and all true deep vees you MUST carry the bow. You need a bow lifting prop and that is done in the way they cup the props.

If you bought a set up props that were labbed for a stepped hull boat, then you will not be happy. If the props were labbed for your specific application then they should have worked very well.

I know Jeff "Steeloutlawed" runs 30 pitch 4-blades on his 33 at close to 80 MPH.
I'm at 77 mph with 27's. on a Lovorsi GPS speedo. The four blades I bought were from a Baja owner.

You could always blue print the bottom and take the hook out.
Where's some pics?

What RPM are you spinning them at?

With 500's you need to be at or above 5200 to get the most out of them.

Dock,
I am going to give Hawkeye a call because most of the 33's and 36's I have seen at LOTO that have been done by them have the boxes on them. Also they do not run shorter drives with the boxes. I should have taken some pics of some so that I could study them and see if the boxes were straight back or if they were raised any amount. Physics leads me to believe that a box should work if you have a prop that has low slip, because it should give you more leverage to lift the bow if the drives are another 12" back off the boat.

I will call Hawkeye and see what they say next week.

My boat is a Hawkeye boat (02' 33), it has boxes.

Three of my friends have ( had) ( two 36's, 1 33)
with boxes ( all from hawkeye) these ranged from
98' to 00' .
The boxes on all of these boats are Stellings, there
set in the middle hole giving it 1" up.

The two 36's don't appear to have a real aggressive
drive height, do to the fact that the'll come out of the
hole effortlessly without any blowout.

My propshafts are approx 3" below the bottom of
the boat.....just guessing ,I would say the two
36's are in the 5" range by comparing them to mine.

Both of these boats carry the bow well.
The 2000 has Bulldogs, it run's low-mid 70's,
the 98' has pro charged 502mpi's ( 570 hp)it runs hi
70's low 80's.

I tried a set of 2" shorties on mine this spring,
even with the 5 blades, I couldn't get it to plane,
so it appears that the 3" below the bottom ( prop shaft)
is about as high up as you can get away with.

I was going to try them on one of the 36's but time
didn't allow so.

My gut feeling was that they should work if we could get
them propped correctly.

On my setup, the 5 blades are the answer.

I'll measure the the propshaft height on the 00'
36 and post back the measurement.

I measured the 00' 36 last night, propshafts are
7" below the bottom.

JaayTee

Could you please tell me exactly where you are measuring so that I can be consistent with you.

Thanks,
Smitty

Here's the way I measured it.

Drives pointed straight ahead, trim set so
prop shafts are parallel to the boat bottom.

I then took a loooong level,
placed one end of it on the hull bottom ( outboard side of the gearcase) ran it along side of the gearcase.
At the front of the gearcase,I ran a square perpendicular to the level to find where the boat bottom is in reference to the leading edge of the gearcase, marked the spot, then measured down to the center of the bullet on the gearcase,
measured 7".

If I had two more hands, I could have measured to the
actual prop shaft center, at the rear of the shafts,
but being that the drives were set parallel to the bottom,
I was pretty confident in the measurement I got.
