This is Interesting
Have you ever seen a thread on this site or any other for that matter comparing a Baja to any other brand where the Baja did not get hammered on quality by those owners of the "High Quality Non-Production Custom Boats"?
Well I just looked at the classified section under boats and I think this is interesting. Currently Today on OSO: Baja = 112 boats 4-sale Cigarette = 119 boats 4-sale Fountain = 246 boats 4-sale (YES 246) Skater = 66 boats 4-sale (Have they built 66?) Outerlimits = 32 boats 4-sale (They build 20 a year?) My point is this. Baja owns the largest market share by far at around 38%. They produce a year more then all the other four names listed above combined. Yet those other owners always point a finger at Baja as being JUNK. If they are junk, and there are thousands more of them out there in the market place, then why are we not all trying to sell ours and get a QUALITY boat? There should be 10 Baja's for sale for every one Fountain. How can there be more Cig's and Fountains 4-sale just on this one site when those are the brands to OWN. If you have one, why would you want to sell it? Certainly not to get a Baja right? Go Figure. |
Re: This is Interesting
There is some a$$ clown saying bajas break in half in 2 foot waves. what a moron, people like that irritate me.

Then we bought the 272 and it went to the coast a lot, we have rough conditions on Lake Norman, and you really do not want to own anything smaller then 28 feet, and we even took the boat to Key West! NOTHING EVER BROKE OR CRACKED and it did NOT split in half. As for the 36 Outlaw, that speaks volumes. It is just AWESOME. With 400 hours it looks brand new and there has NEVER been any repairs from stress cracks, spider cracks, etc. Some people fell the need to belittle others and what others own to make them look bigger! We all know the truth. |
Re: This is Interesting
There are many Bajas on Lake Winnipesaukee. I know many of the owners being involved with a poker run. I have never heard anyone who ones or has owned one complaining about them in any way. That must say something about them... I know I love mine and my next will be................... a BAJA!!!!! :D

Re: This is Interesting

Re: This is Interesting
Dock ..... it's just a sign of the times!
Just like politics and everything else in life, many people no longer find contentment by simply taking pride in their own personal choices. You see it everywhere, society has changed from an "I'm pleased with my decision" to a "you can't be happy with yours" attitude. In this progressive new world we live in, many folks seem to feel confident only when criticizing the choices of others. Bill |
Re: This is Interesting
I love my Baja. I am on my third one and I have no complaints. I never broke anything on any of them, and the resale is grate! It has never taken longer then a week to sell any of my boats and I have made money on all of them. I almost bought a cig before I bought my 29 it was just a pain in the ass. It was an older cig I could not find anyone to insure me. (May have something with my age) But as soon as I call my agent about the Baja there were no questions asked. Just a good practical boat.

You are right, there are MANY variables that we cannot factor in. Most people I know regardless of brand keep a boat 2 to five years. But I do know two people that have new ones every year. Interesting first post. What brand boat do you own? Doc |
Re: This is Interesting
Do you guy's every get the "Just another F'n Baja" comment. I get this all the time from people we boat with. But when it come time to head to LOTO everybody jumps in my boat because their's can't handle the water there. And a couple of them have 27' Fevers.
I think it is like the saying us Harley riders use. "If I have to explain, you wouldn't understand" You have to own a Baja to appreciate one. And what is with the other comment of Baja's are good boats for the money? I think most of the others are over priced for what you get. |
Re: This is Interesting
I loved my Baja, when we orded our 288 I just wanted somethig different. considered the 275 but wanted a bigger, faster stock power boat, looked at the 29 velocity too. Dollar for dollar, ride quality, overall satisfaction, I would own another baja in a heart-beat.....
There were many high-quality features my Baja had that I wish the 288 had, they are a lot of boat for the money... |
Re: This is Interesting
In the early 90's I worked on some older Baja Force boats that in my opinion where of a lesser quality and also had a bad feeling about the quality of Baja's. But in 1996 I was looking to buy a new boat and I had 2 brothers that were selling there boats 1 was a 1994 Baja 32 Caliber with 454 Mags and the other was a 1995 43 BlackThunder with HP 500's I took them out the same day and made the same run with them from the Detroit river to Put In bay Ohio across lake Erie and the water conditions had not changed. First we took the Baja and loved it then we got in the Black Thunder. We did not go 5 miles and I come to a stop and ask the wife what she thought and we both agreed that the ride in the Black Thunder just plain sucked so I call the guy from the lake and ask how to make this run smooth in 2 to 3 footers without pounding and his answer was hit the throttles and hold on. The black thunder was a beautiful boat other than the cracks all over it but the ride was terrible so we bought the Baja and have been happy ever since. Brian

Just kidding, Baja is a great boat for the money. I have a hard time comparing them to Cigarette, Outerlimits, Fountain, and Skater. That is like comparing a Corvette to a Ferrari. The Corvette/Baja is a wonderful car/boat for the money. I have never met a Baja owner that would not go to an Outerlimits, Fountain or Cigarette if money was not an object.

Go Figure. Also, a lot of people enjoy building the custom boats, then selling them to build another one. When money is not an object, it is easier to buy a new boat than to upgrade the one you have. |
Re: This is Interesting
My opinion an why all the other brands are for sale is much like the custom motorcycle market. Someone thinks they have to have one, they buy it, they enjoy it then the new wears off & they try to sell it. The reason you don't see a ton of Bajas for sale is that the person that can afford a "custom" boat buys that custom boat to be a member of the " I have this" club. That person is the same person I am refering to with the motorcycles. Baja owners like us are a little different in breed. We enjoy the performance that a Baja can deliver and more importantly we can afford it comfortably.
Sure I could have bought a Cigarette or Fountain (and still might) but the fact of the matter is that I bought a Baja because it did the same things that the other boats did, mabey not as fast & mabey not as flashy, but it still gets me on the water & that is what matters. |

Re: This is Interesting
Sea Dated,
2 out of 3 ain't bad. Would never consider a Fountain. |
Re: This is Interesting
I have never met a Baja owner that would not go to an Outerlimits, Fountain or Cigarette if money was not an object. Would I buy an Outerlimits or a Cigarette if money was not an object? Hell yes I would, but if money was not an object, I would pass on the Fountain and go straight to the Cig or the OL. I also know several people who I know money is no object and still own a Baja. I am a fan of all performance boats. The Baja happens to fit my budget and my needs so that is what I own. Hopefuly after about 4 or 5 more years I will be in a position to move into a boat in the 35-36 foot range. At that time of course a 36 or 35 Outlaw will be on the short list, I also really like the 35 and 38 Fountains. There are some other brands out there that I will also look into. I like the idea of a large center console and will be looking at those as well. The Cigarette brand has always been my favorite. One day I will own one, but for now my little Baja fits the bill. Heck, I am only 30, I am on my second Baja and third boat so I ain't doing too shabby. |

True story - Friend and his wife that owned a 29 Fountain rode on our 272. His wife asked him why their boat did not ride as good as our Baja and it was two feet longer (she did not know about the beak). Well in about two weeks they owned a new 35 Fountain with 575's. You may have seen it. The boat was all Yellow and was the first 35 built with 575's and ran over 90 MPH. He was a Fountain fan all the way or she would have pushed for a Baja. As for money I could care less. I don't have a lot of money either. Mainly because I spend too much boating. I guess that is one reason we all here on the Baja side get so ticked off at those that have spent three to four times what we did on a boat and want to bash our brand. No it is not an Outerlimits, but it is a hell of a boat for the money. Thanks for your reply. |

The 272 turn pretty good down here. I sold mind in three weeks, and a guy on Norman that now has a 36 also sold his 272 Islander in ONE day for a lot more then I ever thought he would get for it. Good luck |

Fountain = 246 boats 4-sale (YES 246) That'a lot of beeks Dock. BTW I'm still running the hamsters on considering cutting off my beek for a 33 or 36. I love the 38 lightnings but the main factor is $. There are alot of 98-2000 36's that can be bought well under 85K with 500's. I would need low 100's for a 38 lightning and that's alot of money to go to other BS like strippers. :evilb: :evilb: |
