Doc
The Maximus props are 28 pitch and have been reworked by Brett specifically for a 36 Baja. They might be a tad small, but at 5500 I was running 85 and had 11% slip, so if you can hit 6000 Brett said you will be around 92. Just offering them to use for testing if you want. Smitty |

It's interesting all the things Dave and Adam discovered that were wrong from the factory in the electrical and wiring. They have at this point pretty much completely rewired the boat.
Things we discovered: The A/C pump in the bilge was mounted upside down which kept it in an air lock. That explains why I had to always prime it to us the A/C. The pump is now mounted correctly in a different location so I'm not standing on it when in the bilge. The refridgerator is both A/C & D/C and is designed to switch over to A/C when we hook up to shore power. However it was wired up wrong and stayed on D/C all the time. The factory stereo wiring was a JOKE. The system was not well thought out at all but that has all been corrected. The swim platform was off center. The starboard transom assemble was missing a shim from the factory which explains why I could never keep the little plastic shim on the side of the outdrive. The best part of this project is that we have gone over this boat 100% from top to bottom and found and fixed any and all issues. I will be able to say it is perfect when we are completed. |
WOW!!!!! The boat is looking great Mark!!!! Congrats!!:drink:

Mark,
The boat is looking Awesome!! So much attention to detail by everyone involved. The finished product will be much enjoyed by you and Tommy! Now if you were in my neck of the woods, it is snowing very hard at that moment!! We had 7" a couple of days ago and expecting 6-12" more. So I do envy your upcoming splash and boating experince!! I have to say, Mark is one of the nicest guys around! He has a habit of helping people in business!! I for one owe my business success to Mark's help. He is always there when I need him!!! It is an honor to be boasted about in your thread! Thank You very much! I look forward to hearing from you about 300hrs after you do your first water test! If it sooner, I hope it to be just casual conversation. Let us know how it feels to drive the New Baja!! :) :) Dick |

I should not have any excuses next year lets just hope these fuel prices stay low. Maybe we can put something together for all the Baja owners. Jay shouldn't be gambeling with his fixed income & the current state of the economy. Plus he isn't right in the head anyway! We do need to have a national gathering. I vote you to be in charge. |
Okay I just received an email from Dave and Adam and they included some new photos.
All is going very well and I'm happy to report that the engines are finished, the exhaust is installed, battery cables connected, wiring harness connected, fuel lines connected and the outdrives and swim platform are installed. They went ahead and installed trim rings and gaskets on both the outside and the inside of the transom where the tail pipes pass through. NICE TOUCH GUYS! We ran into a very slight problem and the seat base and the new triple rear bolster to not match up as they should. Mike McLeod made a special trip over and he and Dave figured out a solution and Kevin Brown is doing just a slight modification on the seat base. They will be installing the new custom panels on each side of the cockpit next, then the new bolsters go it and finally the sunpad and the rear bolster. Those guys have done a fanastic job and I know they will be as glad to get this project out of the shop as I will be to get it back on the water. |

Here's a picture of the transom that I just received. The drives and swim platform are installed.
Note the water dumps from the intercoolers about each outdrive. |

Hey guys careful with those wrenches on the engine PLEASE!:evilb:
Look how nice they ran the throttle cable. SWEET |

This will give you an idea of what we have to trim on the seat base. Removing a little material and moving the cross support over slightly.

Well Lane is in serious thought about the side panels. He says that instead of the two piece units Baja used he is doing them out of one piece of wood and has some good ideas on the design which will allow for better speaker placement.
Instead of solid white like it came from Baja he will be adding a love of color to better match the new bolsters. |
Doc, what is the hole for in the transom right above the port side water pickup?

Funny how so many folks that saw the pictures of the new engines including myself thought they would not fit! Mark Boos laughed and said "Trust me they will fit". |

Of course you have to have brand new hour meters. There used to be a switch mounted between the light and hour meter and kevin cleaned that up.

Folks if you have a rock solid hull you can do anything to it you want to. If your hull is not rock solid then you need these guys real bad because if you could see the pictures of the boats they have repaired you would be amazed.
I think that many of you like I have will find that Bucyrus is becoming a one stop point for all your boat repair needs. I do not know of any other location other than South Florida where you can get all this done in one stop. Dave is the guy to call and he can head up any project you have. Also keep in mind that Kustom Kolors is not 20 miles from Bucyrus so you get everything in one stop. Fiberglass Work Custom Rigging Complete Interior & Upholstery Stereo LED and General Lighting Custom Paint You name it and they can make it happen. Who is going to be next? I had 100% faith in these guys and you can see first hand they know what they are doing. My project is almost finished and they need to move some more boats in. Get your winter projects set up and on the schedule so you will be riding in style come next spring. XT Innovations a name to remember. |
I wish now that I had taken a picture of the other project that was going go beside my boat.
There is nothing these guys won't touch! Yes they did a restore on a Ford Tractor. New paint, decals, interior etc and that thing looked brand new! |
My motto has always been something worth doing is worth doing right. This project fits that to a T!!! Incredible!! I love seeing high-end work like this. Congrats!
|
Looks awesome Mark!!!!!! :ernaehrung004: Been awhile since we talked but now I see why.

This is actually a photo of Doug working the throttle as Adam makes adjustments on the engine linkage. We had to move the shifter pin location to the center position from the bottom hole, set the stops correctly, and equal the tension on both handles. You are correct that Lane, and myself will be addressing the side pad designs tomorrow, after we set the motorlid in place. You should go ahead and work on your "For Sale" sign on the HP 500s.....LOL XT:cool: |

"Jumping Ship" NOT. Sorry I was just trying to keep this under raps until we were almost complete. At the same time I developed a great deal of respect for the Checkmate brand and you know how much I respect all the folks there. Down the road I hope to add another boat to the stable maybe a center console and I hope they are making one by then. I'm sure at some point I will also be a very proud Checkmate owner. Thanks Dock P.S. We always look good buddy! |
