I have always used teflon tape with good results but it has pipe dope in it now. These are 3/4 NPT fittings on the inlet and exit of the sand strainers and they are leaking from both sides. I plan to pull them off and use teflon tape and see how that works before I start cutting the water pickups or trying to reduce water pressure another way.

They have those pretty blue fittings. Anyone know a good trick to wrench them without marking the finish?

i have made 100's of AN lines. my race can and the others i have built all have out fuel systems, nitrous systems, tranny lines etc etc all out of AN stuff. i just redid my hole system with the newer black stuff. i picked up those wrenches a few years bac, ive used them maybe 3 times at most. they are way worse then a basic adjustable wrench

the best, and i meen best way to mess with those fittings is to put 1 to 2 wraps of electric tape around them, then put a squeeze on them with a cresent wrench do your thing, then take the tape off.
this works best from the 100 things i have tryed.

Thank you VERY much for your reply. That exact thought had came to mind and I am real glad to hear it will work. I did not want to invest in tools that I may never use again also.

By the way you do some nice work those pictures are awesome.

I personally would have went the tape method figuring Id never need the wrenches again. But, being Offshoreonly I figured someone would mention those wrenches as the "correct" way to do it. :rolleyes:

Not bad, up to 82GPS. Wouldn't mind trying some shorties. My X diminsion is very conservative. Looking for some rough water, it has been like glass both times out. I would like to be able to top the 84 that Powerboat ran the Shogren 35!

You are getting close for sure. Remember that the "Poker Face" boat was did not have a lot of options and only ran 86 to 87 MPH. It was very light weight until they replaced the top deck with a heavier constructed deck when the original cracked.

Where was the Shogren boat tested at? If it was tested in Washington, NC you will NEVER duplicate those speeds. I have several friends that bought new Fountains that came with a certified test speed sheet and not a one of them came close in the real world. Most were tested with one person, minimal fuel, no gear, with the current.

You are right about the flat water. I have seen it rob me of 5 MPH.

An adjustable wrench works great, also they make a pair of channel locks with flat jaws which work great. You may be able to pick up a rubber insert for channel locks at a plumbing supply store made specifically for plumbing fixtures with soft finishes but would work great for your application. I will see if I can find a link to the product.
