There are not that many Baja folks that are willing to tow 12 to 18 hrs for a boating event. You can count them on your fingers without having to move to toes. I think you would attract very few first timers for LOTO and be competing with an established BAJA event. The organizers of the established Baja event would rightly be reluctant to provide much in the way of logistics support for a second event that would result in many owners having to choose between the two events. For the most part, everyone that has wanted to boat on LOTO has.
My vote is to move to the SE to establish a new event and plan on multiple years on the same lake as you have the opportunity to make it better each year.

I like that attitude and agree 100%.
The wife wants Put-In-Bay but said she would go back to LOTO. I hope we can get Dave and Adam to ride with us on the event.

I'm been to three of the five listed.
We boat a lot on Norman and it is a very nice lake. Not large but nice and there are FIVE bars / resturants on the lake but ZERO hotels. You cannot get more than about 20 boats at any one place. Poker runs America came back in September and we had to rent a house boat for our lunch stop and raft all the boats off of it. There are several hotels off the water that are close at exits 36, 33, 28 and 25.
LOTO is not a bad tow for most. I would disagree that it is rough for the smaller boats. IT IS ROUGH FOR EVERY BOAT. We broke a hatch, cracked a cuddy door and lost an anchor there but I would go back if that is the place we select. There is a lot happening there for sure.
I'm been to Cumberland twice and it is a nice lake. Unlike the others it is a CORP lake and does not offer much in the way of accommodations. We have stayed in the lodge at James Town and in a log cabin at James Town and they do have nice docks. The docks accross at State Dock are very nice also and they have a lodge / hotel up there as well. You pretty much have to bring your own party with you up there.
I would sure consider Table Rock it is a beautiful lake.
I can sure see us all up at Kelly's Island and then rafted at Put In Bay! That area offers a LOT.
For those not afraid of salt water Charleston SC is AWESOME as is Destin Florida.

We have navigated Myrtle to Savannah several times and have spent the majority of time between Charleston and Beaufort.
In my opinion a really fun time is the water front in Beaufort. It is laid back and really nice since they did a major renovation there a couple of years back and the marina is nice and there are about three or four restaurants right there within walking distance that are a lot of fun. At least one always has a band and you can hear them from your boat even. For those staying on the boat they have hook ups and showers and there are hotels close by. There are not any wild and crazy places like LOTO but you cannot find this kind of boating anywhere else.
There is a great ramp in Charleston and it’s an easy two hour cruise to Beaufort down the ICW with beautiful scenery.
The ICW around Myrtle gets really narrow and there is a lot of no wake zones. That is one of the reasons we stay South of Myrtle. It is the prettiest around George Town and South in my opinion.
There are a few things I always caution people about that have not done coastal boating.
My Top 10 list:
1)Have a good depth sounder.
2)Have a good GPS and know how to use it. I also recommend looking at a chart before heading out.
3)Carry binoculars and have a spotter watching ahead for channel markers and crab pots. There are some very tricky spots.
4)Have a good crew that can handle lines and fenders. Wind and current can be your friend or your worst enemy. A good crew is the difference between getting docked safely and repairing damage when you get back home.
5)DO NOT under any conditions get out of the channel.
6)You MUST have a good anchor.
7)You SHOULD have a SeaTow membership.
8)You MUST come off plane when you pass by any marina or launch ramp.
9)You can remain on plane under bridges unless they are marked otherwise.
10)If you like to cruise at 50 to 55 MPH the ICW is a wonderful place to enjoy. If you want to go faster head offshore if conditions allow.
I don’t want to take anything away from Jason’s plan as I’m sure we cannot get as many boats all the way to the east coast but I bet we could get 20 boats + and that would be a real nice time for those that could attend. I will get with Steel Outlawed and see if can put something together if some of you are interested.
It gets HOT there in the summer so I would suggest May or June. Let me know if any of you are up for this idea.
