Question 26 outlaw speed ???

well, i did some testing with my old mans 08 26 outlaw. 496 HO.
it came with 3 blade 23p cruz at 3200-3400 rpm was about 34-36 mph and it seemed to blow the prop out very easy and i could barly trim it.
full out the boat spun to 4800 ish and ran 59 mph on gps every time.
this was fully loaded, fuel fuel, 3 people, 2 anchores 2 batt's, coolers etc etc etc. loaded up

i put my old prop on it 4 blade 22p and cruz speed at 3200-3400 rpm was more like 40-42 mph with the same load top speed was 60-62 mph depending what direction and what waves i was hitting. every run was 60.7-61.5 and i saw 62 a couple times
the 22 was just at 5,000 rpm. im going to put my labbed 24 on there and try that, but this info what do you think?
i was thinking this boat should run 64 or better. what is everyone running?

i think if i get it more to 4800-4900 rpm with the 24p lab i should see 1+ mph.

any thoughts?

What HP is that boat? 375 or 425? I raced a 2005 25 Outlaw with a 496 425HP a couple of weeks ago and he was running about 68MPH. I was running 69 and I bairly went around him. I was supprised at the speed, I thought it would be around 65 MPH. He said he had a 23 pitch prop, I assume he had the higher x dim.

I am seeing just about the same #'s in my 2008 26 OL, just this past weekend full fuel, 2 adults, running in a slight chop in the Atlantic Ocean I was seeing 4800 RPM and 59.8 on GPS with drive trimmed about to the 3/4 mark. 496 HO with a Mirage 23P stock prop. I cannot seem to get those last few hundred RPM out of it ! Boattest.com saw 66 MPH at 5,000 RPM don't know how they got there with a stock prop setup.

Are you guys running the 496 Mag HO with 425 HP? Either that guy I ran last week did some mods to his 25' or you guys seem a little slow. It sounds like 64-65 MPH would be closer to normal. Now if it were a real hot & humid day you could be down 2 MPH or more just from that.

The orginal thread posted a a 496 HO (which is 425HP with the HO description). The 25 Outlaw was probably running 68mph on his speedo and probably 60ish GPS. With a 23 Mirage Plus the 25/26 Outlaw is a low 60s WOT boat from everything I have experienced even with a professional driver. The Baja Outlaw's are a great boat but need a lot of power to run fast IMHO.

Low 60's is disappointing to me. I would have thought with all the advancements in hull design, layup, & rigging that they should be able to run in the upper 60's to low 70's. I always liked the lines of the 25 &26 Outlaws but on the 26's I noticed the sharp bends in the exhaust before the transom. I wonder how much power (if any) is lost and why this would ever even be rigged this way. how much work would it be to take those angles out during the build process?

His speedo said 70, I estimated his speed by what I was getting on GPS. When I passed him I was doing 69 and I bairly went around him. I think he must have done some upgrades. I will press him for more info next time I see him.

its an ho 425, with the stock 23p it ran low rpm, with the 22 4 blade it seemed to run more rpm and a little faster but cruz speed was great with the 4 blade.
its very strange as my father also has a 2005 25 outlaw at his home in florida, it has a 375 hp 496 and runs 60.x every time out with a 23p M plus prop and spins right up to the 4900 mark. this new boat hull is allot different with more of a pad style stern.

seems a little off to me, but maybe they are not as light as they say, the boat is great inside, i love the change over the 25, lots more room, great smooth ride etc, but the speed seems a tad low. im going to try my labbed 24 befor the end of the summer, it has a little cup in it as well so maybe the rpm will be close and the little extra bow lift will work. we'll see.

if the speeds are not off and 59-61 is all she has, to run 66+ i think this boat needs a 525. blue motors are pretty!!!

as for the sharp bends in the exhaust, i saw that and just shook my head. in my experiance i dont think it would hurt power at all. my boat gained nothing when i pulled the quick and quit tips off which is a bad restriction. so im sure its not a power robber, just a little silly of a design imo

Best I have seen on my 26 OL with an HO is 67 on GPS and that is a stock set up(except for the tips). I typically hit 5100 rpm's unless its a really hot humid day then it would be more like 4900 to 5000.

Is that 08 brand new?? how many hours??

Same setup here, about the same speeds. Have seen 66 and change under "ideal" conditions although typically it's a 63-64mph boat.
