OK, here's how it goes!

The Sport 240 was created in late 87' thru 88' then deleted for the new Sport 250 in 89'. The Sport 250 was renamed in 90' to the 250 ES, and then again in 91' to the Baja 270.

In 92' the older Sport 240 deck, & hull molds were brought back into production as the first "Outlaw" model. Only the deck, and hull tooling is the same between the Sport 240, and the better known 24 Outlaw. All the hardware, windscreen, swim platform, and interior is much different between them.

right on my buds pulled the 250 sport off theres and but the 270 on:grinser010: theres were 89 and 90 also they must of made a few 240sports in early 89 cause the dealership had a black hull with white and red and his seats looked like the 250 seats and not my 88 seats which were different from the 87 seats Isaw in there 1st 87. I almost bought the 89 black one but the 88 was 8 thousand less, I payed summer of 90 16,700 the black one was 24,000 and the new 250 was 34,000. art

My question is could you order the boat like that back in 1988 ?

Yes, no problem. In my opinion but the Sport 240, & 226 looked nicer w/o the rear rails. Both my 226's did not have them installed. (special employee order!)

Art,

They very well could of built some 240's in 89' Even though they only show up in the 88' brochure I knew we built them in 87' but was kind of unsure about 89'.

The ONLY record on these older Baja's is a couple well used, hand written three ring binders that list the HIN number, the gelcoat colors used, the date it was completed, the Baja Dealer it was to go to, and the date it shipped. It was not until around 96' that this information was entered into Sea Ray's database, and included much more detail. I have had to access both the older HIN number books, and the SR database many times when I worked at Baja Marine. Access to the history of older Baja's is one of the perk's that no longer exists at "Baja" in North Carolina. Sorry, but it is want it is!

Sorry for the sort-of hijack, but XT I have a question for you. I have an 89 Baja Sport 280, came with 330s and ran 62 (GPS) with 23 pitch mirages, what speed did the 280 do with 365s and what prop did they use? Did Baja ever put anything bigger than 365s in the 280?

Thanks

I had a 90, 226ES with a HP465. It was a handfull to say the least.

Yep I have an 88 with 365's. I have run it right at 69.8 with 3/4 tank and 2 people runnig 23p Bronson Hill labbed props.

I think it would go faster but those props won't hold the nose and it starts to porpoise. Perfect water I can get it to run faster in like 2' chop. I have some 4 blades that really make the boat run nice, but I can only turn them at 4400 RPM.

I have seen several with 502's in them, can't say if they were factory or not. The 330 seams to be the most popular package in anything after 87. Before that seems to be 350's with alpha's.

If memory serves me correctly the 365s still turned the 23s, but at higher RPMs? The 89' model year should have offered the carbed 502 engine option, and probably turned 25p Mirage props? The 1990 300 ES was the last year we offered the model, and it was replaced with the Baja 290.

In response to an earlier post, I have A 1989 Sport 240 that has the square transon IE No integrated swim platform, it came stock with K planes , mechanical tab indicators, Zero Effort controls a 365 Magnum and a Bravo drive.I had ask before on this site if there was anything special bout this boat and the response i got was they could be ordered this way. I would like any other info on this boat from the binders they said existed if this is possible. I still have the boat. Thanks
