I have an 86 280 Force that came with 350's and Alpha's. Re did the boat about 4 years ago. Motors are now 383 strokers, both were on the dyno at 465 hp. Put on some Bravo drives and running 24P Bravo 1 4 blades at 5600 and I get 76 on GPS. These things are hard to get going.

Yep I have an 88 with 365's. I have run it right at 69.8 with 3/4 tank and 2 people runnig 23p Bronson Hill labbed props.
I think it would go faster but those props won't hold the nose and it starts to porpoise. Perfect water I can get it to run faster in like 2' chop. I have some 4 blades that really make the boat run nice, but I can only turn them at 4400 RPM. I have seen several with 502's in them, can't say if they were factory or not. The 330 seams to be the most popular package in anything after 87. Before that seems to be 350's with alpha's. |

Honestly I would be happy to run 76 GPS. Plenty fast for this hull. |
I have a buddy that has a 87 240 sport with twin small blocks and alphas.both right hand and is looking for 3 blade 23s.Any suggestions?

In reality, anything over the 70 mark gets a little hairy on this boat.

With 465hp that is about what I would expect the boat to do. 200 hp more than my boat and about 6 mph faster. My motors have around 1000 hours on them, so I may be down a few hp after all these years.

With the set of 4 blades the nose stays up and the boat rides totally different. Was a huge difference in the way I would come out of a wave and land, the boat would stay much more stable and straight. Basically with the 3 blades I plow into a wave, where the 4 blades stay on top. I think Irish could see the difference in the way the boat ran last year. Seemed to be far more pictures of the boat with the nose in the air. |
I've seen 78 on gps in my '92 270.
Very hairy ride indeed. |
No I do not have external steering, although all my steering is new and very tight, steering is the next step. Added a pair of K Planes this year. I am hoping this will help a lot over the standard tabs.
