What are you seeing now with what RPM? What load? What prop are you spinning? What temperatures?

Honestly to see 75mph out of a 496HO in a 25OL plan on a Raylar Kit or Whipple...If you go with a Whipple plan on refreshing your engine with good internals it won't hold up to the Whipple.

The simple answer is NO, to get a 25 OL into the lower 70's you are going to need @ or over 500HP and 5300 rpms. To run an honest 75mph you are going to need probably 550-600hp and 5300rpms. So a Raylar kit would do it or A Wipple would get you there.

I am guessing you are running around 66 gps right now, youcan probably squeeze 1-2 mph by changing props, but additional gains will be costly, to the point youare almost better of selling you boat and just buying a bigger one. Remember once you change the stock parts of that boat YOU WILL depreciate it period, only exception maybe be the raylar kit, but you will never get that money back out.

I disagree I know of 1 right now running 72mph with CMI's and computer reflash with StageII and several hours of prop testing and tweaking.

OK, please explain, computer reflash??? and what stage II?? 496HO 425hp lets add it up

425 + cmi + reflash + Stage II = ???hp

I would like to know, have many friends with 496's and I want to make sure I am conveying correct information.:drink:

Is this true on all engines that have been upgraded? Or can this be relative to the quality of parts and craftsmanship behind the work?

Because when I look at engines and work like this http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/g...ple-power.html or Dock's engines I do not see a depreciated boat. This probably answers my own question but everything to do to cars, trucks or boats we seem to only get pennies on the dollar back anyway. I am dealing with that right now on a '06 Mini Cooper we are trying to sell with only 9500 miles on it. The SOB would have been sold by now if we had high miles and driven it in the rain and snow!

I guess what it just comes down to is... what people want to spend and for what.

UGH!

I would put on an extension box & a -3" IMCO.
You can use a Stellings adjustable box and get away with a -2" lower so you'll save some money on a drive.
The common thought is to throw HP to the boat to make it faster, but I think more reliable speed can be found with what I'm suggesting. Plus, should you decide that isn't enough you have a better platform to build on because your boat hull is operating more efficiently.
If you "need" more HP, the Raylar kit is the only way I would suggest for modifications. Supercharging the 496 is really not a great idea. The internals are cast & just not robust enough to handle the added pressures of supercharging, not to mention supercharging tends to be hard on drives.
CMI is another great, but expensive way to gain speed with a 496. You'll spend about $6k to add the CMI's & re-prop.

As I stated above I've seen it on GPS 496HO with CMI's Stelling's box running 70-71 side by side with me in my 302...There's a reason I repowered my boat and added boxes and shorties.:drink:
