I recently purchased a 272 with a 454 magnum. I was told the boat runs about 59mph. The question I have is what kind of RPMS should I be seeing at WOT. I have only taken it out once since I bought it the previous Monday and I did not have my GPS with me. The previous owner said the gear ratio in the drive was 1.36:1. I want to say it had a 23 pitch mirage prop. Thanks in advance for your help.

max rpns depends on what motor you have,
I am guessing a 454 if its only a 58 mph boat.
it would have to be an early 272, or the drive was swapped to be a 1:36 ratio
the boat would perform better all around with a 1:50
What year and motor do you have ?

Welcome to the site and congrats on the purchase of the 272. It is a nice boat that I'm sure your will enjoy.
Very strange for sure that you have a 1.36 ratio drive. They all came with 1.5 from the factory which is more of an industry standard ratio for a boat like yours.
Here is a link that will help you. If you put in your drive ratio, prop pitch, max speed and estimate your slip between 10% to 15% it will show you that your max RPM is between 4000 to 4200 RPM. This seems low to me as I think that motor can spin up to at least 4500 RPM.

Good luck and I hope this helps out.

Thanks to all those who replied. I picked up a 1995 272. The boat is immaculate and was in the price range I wanted to spend (paid cash). The motor is the 385 hp version and has after market exhaust system by Stainless Marine out of Florida. I was told the drive ratio is 1.36 by the previous owner who owned the boat since new.
