Yeah....what's the catch?

JWoolever 07-19-2010 07:35 PM

Someone must be very hard up for cash to give a boat like that away, even in poor condition its worth more.

Wish you luck, wish I would have been so lucky to get a good solid boat for such a steel.

1MOSES1 07-19-2010 08:09 PM

no catch...the boat has been for sale all year without a single offer. even if I find minor things wrong, I plan on deducting it out of the 29k price tag.

even if i can get a solid hull, engines, and outdrives...I can cosmetically clean it up for cheap.

thanks man i appreciate it....

i forgot to mention the boat has 260 hours on it...it is being serviced this week.

I'm guessing this is the one....

Only thing I see is the speedo has leaked, easily replaced with GPS. Also assuming there's no trailer. Still a helluva deal! Good luck!

Definately giving it away to cut they're price by 20k...Almost sounds too good to be true?

You are correct this is the one...I didnt want to disclose information on the boat until the deal was finalized but I do have a deposit on it so its not going anywhere.

The boat was checked out mechanically on Thursday. Now a survey and personal inspection will be conducted this weekend. I have my fingers crossed.

Like I said. It has some cosmetic blemishes, but are easily fixable. The boat does not come with a trailer but I have an aluminum load rite on order (tri axle brand new).

I appreciate the kind words baja_302

With my leftover influx of cash (15k) I plan on replacing the vinyl graphics, steering wheel, guages, and apolstery. And also give it a good cleaning and wax.

You do realize that the graphics on the boat are painted on under the gelcoat?? You can't take them off. The only ways to cover them is to paint the entire hull or wrap the hull with a vinyl wrap.
It is a great find though and congrats on the purchase.

Says it has the HO's but Mags are pictured....

I didnt realize this. Thanks.

I was gonna head in the direction of a vinyl wrap...Any reason not too?

If the owner was not against a survey, in my opinion it should be your surveyor and the owner paying the bill. You can never tell who is in bed with who. :party-smiley-004:

Good luck with the purchase.

The owner conducted a pre survey to ensure everything was working mechanically, so I dint waste my time in driving down to Maryland.

My personal surveryor will be conducting the official survey and I will be footing the bill.

I think the entire vinyl wrap thing is cheap looking. If you are going to keep it then pay to have a custom paint job put on it. I believe it will look better, longer then vinyl. jmo.

It doesn't look bad as it sits now either. Consider just leaving it alone too.:drink:

That is good. I was thinking you were taking his word on the survey.

Best of luck with everything. :drink:

How did it go? Was the boat nice? Did you get it?

It didnt go well. I drove down to Maryland to find out that it wasnt running (fuel pump issues). I wouldnt say it was a waste of time but the boat needs work.

The gel coat is cracking in many places which had me concerned from a structural standpoint. The interior was in good shape minus the faulty speedo guage.

I couldnt get diagnostics off the motors as they werent being read by my laptop. The boat needs a good detail and wax. I couldnt inspect the outdrives because the boat was on a lift. It could be a good deal for someone who is willing to put in some work.

I bet the owner would take 25k. It hasnt seen much use which is probably its biggest downfall.

In the end, I picked up a Formula Fastech 292 in NJ. Here is the link:

I was under the impression that you did not care for the 6.2 motors.

I wasnt crazy about the 6.2's but when I saw the 496's...There is no access for working. Coupled with the fact that the 496's burn almost twice as much fuel turned me onto the 6.2's.

Although its not a fast accelerating boat out of the hole...the formulas top end speed (stock) is impressive. We were running low to mid 70's easily in 3 ft chop.
