What to buy now....
I don't want to jinx anything but I believe my 29 OL will be on its way to a new home by this time tomorrow. If the deal were to fall through I'd be fine keeping it. The boat is super clean with low hours.
Anyway...on to the fun part. What's next????? I have 3 footitis. For another 29 or 302 it would have to litterally be a deal too good to pass up. I have to launch myself at my marina on the Ohio River with a 2009 Chrylsler Aspen (Hemi). I have use of a family member's truck to move it in and out of winter storage. I do not want to buy another tow vehicle. I won't travel with this boat since my family has boats on Norris Lake, TN and Lake St Clair, MI. I haven't set a budget yet. Only looking for pros and cons of each. Here's what I'm thinking: 33 OL, 342, 34 Powerquest. I've seen plenty, but never ridden on any of them. Any reasons to lean one way or another? |
I have a 2000 342 I am selling, if you have any questions or would like details PM me.
Baja Pete |
I love my 33OL never been in a power quest but the 33 has soo much room in the cockpit. Has handled anything I have thrown at it so far....
I often launch by myself as well. With the right dock set up it is not a problem. It all depends on what your after, the 342 has alot of comforts depending on what your looking for. |
Check out Hawkeye Boat Sales website. They had a few 33s and 342s.
|
Don't need the galley of a 342. My wife isn't interested in cooking for me on the water. Don't overnight much. But I've always like the looks.
Love the room in 33 and 36OLs. I'm not too fimilar with PQ, again just always liked the lines of the 34 and 38. |
Two boats I would really look at if I were looking to move up. 33OL and Powerplay 33 flat deck. Both ride great. Rigging on the PP is going to be better, but you are going to be looking at an older boat to get one.
|
33 and enough room for a stripper pole in the cockpit!
What else could you ask for |
33 outlaw
my 06 33 is listed in the scarab classifieds, great boat, just moving up.
|
My sale went off without a hitch over the weekend. Kind of bitter-sweet. Made decent money on it, but now I'm worried I can't replace it with something as clean.
Let me narrow it down a little. I'm not looking at anything over $60K. I realize that puts me back to the turn of the century to get into a 342 or 33-36. For trailering capabilities I'm also looking at 29 Fountains (single). I used to own a '98. As much as I want a newer one, I can't justify the cost since I spend a lot of time at my parent's lakes. Showing the Baja on the river this weeknd was only the 4th time I had it out this year. |

You guys think I can launch a 342 with an '09 Chrysler Aspen? I'm not worried about pulling it out. More concerned about it pulling me in the river while backing down the ramp. Like I mentioned above, I have use of an F250 to go from winter storage to the marina.
|
Boat outweighs the vehicle by about 3,000#'s depends on how steep the ramp is I suppose. :Not something I'd try. party-smiley-004:
|
If the trailer had electric or electric over hydraulic you would have no worries.
|
I knew what you would say!!:)
|
just throw the boat in gear and ..... well your pretty brave.

Well it wont pull you all the way into the river :evilb: It should stop once the boat hits the water.

Looks like banks have their ass cheeks puckered any more. Credit isn't a problem. Down payment isn't a problem. It's loan values on boats these days. How can you tell me a clean low hour 2000 342 is only worth $30K? Won't even include options or trailer as part of the value. Looks like I'm getting a canoe!
|
Yea my boat is only KBB at 40k with 500efi's
|
If it were me I would look for a new bank. Mine is still loaning up to 90% of high book.
|
Most banks around here won't loan on ANYTHING older than 6 years. Ones that will are loaning 90% of low NADA with base motors.
I went through this last year when I bought my 29OL too. NADA base is with a singe engine on the 29. Bank wouldn't even consider it had twins. Working on something. I'll post details if it pans out. |

You will love a 33 outlaw! Lots of room, rides and handles great. Find one of the many deals out there and buy one!
|
I've got a couple of possibilities in the works right now. We'll see what happens. Stay tuned...

I'd honestly take a look at the 34 Vyper before you make a decision... as much if not more room than a 36 outlaw and an excellent riding/performing boat. Will more than likely be my next boat I'm hoping to find one with 500EFIs they hit 84-86
|
I haven't updated this thread because it's been a long process between scheduling time to see boats, financing, sweet talking the wife...
I figured I'd stick with what I know. Ended up getting a 1999 Baja 342. Haven't gotten it yet. Hopefully by the end of the week. Going through CG documentation process now (bank required it). 502s with 132 hours, generator, all the bells and whistles. Really nice shape. Only thing that scared me off from a PQ was availibility of support, parts, stuff like that. I love the looks. http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...o35178-en.html |
Man that boat looks amazingly clean. I always thought that "target" graphic was amazing. Now look over 10 years later it still looks as great as it did in 1999. Good Job Baja!!!!!!!!!!!!
Enjoy your new boat. Larry |
Thanks. It's super clean. The owner is having a new cover and cockpit carpet made for me (didn't have it when he bought it).
This may be the last one for a while. Dealing with banks these days is enough to give a man an ulcer! Still need to close the loan (hopefully Thursday). Should be delivered by the weekend. Now to go truck shopping.... |

This is a great deal - it makes me sick to know what my 342 is worth... $48K Really good condition 342 with U shaped seating. That is a lot of room. |
I don't figure repo prices into current values. These kind of deals are about gone from the market and based on money owed not market values.
Market will come back. Just not as quick as it fell. |
Keith it says mininum bid is $48 k it doesnt mean it will sell for that i dont really care for the u shaped seating but the rest of it is pretty nice looking
|
I'm just throwing it out there - its a good deal.
I personally think it will sell for less. This boat was in S FL craigslist by the owner for $52K then the repo guy must have got it. Its been sitting there for a while - for $48K its a great deal with a great engine package. I think its a really clean boat too. The ladies love U shape seating.... its where they dance. Whenever we go to the Miami boat show I lust over the Outerlimits and Sunsations and Hustlers but Christine says, "our boat has more room".... She doesnt like bench seat in the high dollar boats. I disagree with her - Id rather have the Outerlimits Superleggra personally and not give a crap about cockpit space. |

Those repos on that site sometimes go for less. than "suggested price". That's just a ballpark they would like to send to the bank. A lot sell for less than what they're advertised at. Obviously depends on the bank and what they need to get out of it.

Small world, This guy is right down the road from me, though I've not seen it outside on the hard or in the water. I suppose 138 hours explains why.
