My issue is that I had a couple of "moments" that really shook me up, and has convinced me that I have got to change the settup.

Once running in a strong and difficult crosswind in big chop at 70 mph, but also once on a long 2" swell on glassy smooth water at 76 mph, I found myself fighting a chinewalk that very nearly had the boat at 45° in both directions, several cycles, and seriously scared me. In both cases it built up real quick, and with little warning.

The short five blade didn´t help, but I feel that I have to drop the drive (2 1/2" prop to pad, on a 12" exrtension) to get back the solid handling that I had with the 525/stock XR settup.

2" spacer (instead of the 1") and some runs with four blades. Less stern lift is what I´m looking for.

My best time on the LQM was a 16.79 time, but was beaten by my buddies in a 662 powered Activator, a blown 515 in a 28 Pantera raceboat and by a procharged H2X! We had great fun, and didn´t blow a drive!

we were taking guests for rides between times, and i was really pleased to show them 75 mph on the GPS on the last run. 6 people on board and 75 gals of fuel.

Thanks Baja man. Your right that was interesting. Lot of info and I'm trying to sift through it.

Bottom line: Whats the best Extension box to go with? And round about how many MPH am I looking at up top?

The best....it's all up to debate. With the Stellings it is adjustable but I could never do it and others with the same box say it takes a few hours to adjust. With the IMCO it is a set height. Also the Stellings has a twin universal drive shaft which some claim is hard on the drive but I still have had no issues with. You are a bit more HP now than I currently run (Stock 425 HO) so I think your chances of seeing better gain are greatly increased....it also changes the CG but I have yet to get mine dialed in to see the real advantages. I honestly think your setup has a lot to gain the next step would be box and shorty or just box.

I would run a Imco Neutral box on that setup and find a -2 shorty. You can try just the box prior to buying the shorty, but I did both at the same time along with putting 500efi's in my boat and picked up 8mph on GPS. I run a solid 80 no matter what the load is. This is out of the box without any tweaking. I'm hoping to pick up a few more MPH this summer with prop work and adjustments.

I was thinking more Stellings, Violator has had great results with just a stellings box raised all the way up with no shorty.

You can find used boxes in the $1500-2000K range but also keep in mind that hydraulic steering will have to be installed if a box is added. With the Stellings box you can raise the prop shaft height ~2 1/2" without a shortend lower. I believe with a IMCO box you will need a different lower to raise prop shaft height or raise engine.

I wish summer was here and we could put some of this to rest and just do some testing!!

Better yet....If I send my boat to Mythbusters then they can try all the combinations!! Should I inquire?

Bajaman, I'd guess your not seeing the full benefit of your setup because of your stock 496. -the speed isn't there in the first place.
Too much hull is still dragging in the water. Of course the good news is all you need to do is bump the power and your setup will get to shine!

I'm on the other end of the issue, I've got the power (600sci) but haven't done the set up. My boat runs a best of 80 on gps (upper 70s anytime anywhere any temp etc.).
I would love to add a box, and I even have a 2" shorty. I have the 26 outlaw, but am confident the boat would react to the changes very similar to the 25.
I haven't done it yet, as I became a little burned out on tweaking and way too busy with work to put the time in,
but reading about all these setups and numbers, gets my gears turning again.

Yes, stock 496 HO at the moment. Getting ready to put a Raylar HO600 kit in after first of the year.

I knew I was gonna add power and had the same thought as you about making more of a difference with more power. I see Wildcard had seen ~85 with his 600 SCi so I'm just hoping to be ~82-83 with roughly 625 HP Raylar?? I know my set up is real close after the spacer is added.

Time is so important as we all know to set up...wish I had more myself. I would think your 26 SHOULD be mid 80's with a box.
