Allan, right on man!! Glad to hear things are progressing nicely.
I'm STILL waiting for my boat to get out of the shop!! last I heard the block was out getting bored out the heads were getting milled and the JE pistons had just been made and sent off. So hopefully I will be good to go here shortly. A couple of questions for you..... You said the boat likes to walk alot when you get more speed under it. I take it you have the twin ram stock tabs on it? I've always figured my boat will walk when I get up into those speeds and higher but I thought if I put the tabs down and play around with them it would keep the boat a little more stable. Have you played with this?? Also, you are running a stock bravo?? No probs yet?:D I'm keeping my fingers crossed man! I had them go through my drive put fresh bearings in and cleaned up the gears, cut them back slightly....I'm praying I don't start blowing drives....that is, before I can sell the thing!;) Tank |
A friend of ours hit 82 with 1.36 gears a 454 and headers and a Pro-Charger in a 24 outlaw. That is GPS! We almost bought it, but it was JST 2SLOW!!

HAHAHA......like the last little bit there 2fst.:D The boat is really comfy with the 4 blade rev 4 24p at WOT(about 71-72 GPS denpending on load, weather, etc). Add 10 mph to my boat and it would be pretty wild, problem becomes rough water and outdrives. These boats like to get air rather easily and you put too much power through it and bounce in and out of the water all day with 600ft/lbs/tq plus all day, and you will have Merlin on speed dial (by the way, he will hook you up fast and fair if you need outdrive service.....he is a boat/car mechanic). I'd think that from a realiability stand point you would save some $$ down the road going 82 in something bigger ans less apt to get so much air. Sounds fun though......now you are making me want to go faster a$$hole:D :D
Tank....what's happ-n-n. Yeah, she's up and running. I actually would have hit 73 plus last weekend. Weather was right. 3 guys in boat (650lbs) and a little over a 1/4 tank plus gear and we hit a consistent 71-71.5 ish. So i figure I may have seen 73-74. This motor is not nearly as wieght sensative as the old one. I'm sure you will find the same thing, especially with bigger numbers than me. The boat was a little hairy with a 25p Mirage plus. Walked a ton. Put the 4 blade on and the revs dropped. speed went up. hole shot is simple ( I can hit a plae without going much over 2K rpm) and it handles really well, tabs all the way up, drive titled pretty hard, but not as much trim needed as with the old motor. I think the boat likes about level tabs with the hual(three lights lit up on the indicatro--Yes, stock dual ram Bennets) and lots of trim (Future gimbal work for Merlin:D ) I was running about 68-69 with the same load as mentioned above, through some choppy stuff and it floated right over top of it, but it still will catch as edge or two along the way. More later, Gotta run...A4 |
Yo Allan the tool tosser!
Whats up man? Glad to see it is coming together for you But question with the prop setup, Dude you should be theroetically able to spin like a 25-28 p on that sucker! 23 is in a guess too small for that kind of power Kurt (biggus) turned 25's on stock 330's and that was from the factory in his 280 Im going to test out the 25's on mine (engine HP around 450 each) 23 I would think is just way too small with that kind of power unless your boat is loaded with gear, fuel, people, stuff, food, beers, sodas, ect Maybe add a mineute amount of cup to a 3 blade 25 for a touch more bow lift and get her really out of the water Somehting to think about, You sticking with quicksilver and standard bravo props or are you messing with Hydro's and cleavers? J-L, my man, I read some other posts that made it sound like you were about ready to walk out into traffic!! Hang in there, it's only a boat........Yeah the prop decisions were by luck to be honest. I had planned on running a 25-27 MP. HOwever, with the handling improvements and the RPM's (about 5200) and the speed (I can probably hit 74ish GPSby myself down wind) I don't really think I need to look too much further. It just relly handles well. Check out my other thread.
I have a buddy who has a 28p Rev 4. Same prop as the one I am currently running, just 5 #'s smaller. I am running a 23 Rev 4. I want to try that one out, maybe pick up a bigger propr for long cruising days, drop the revs even more and see what speed numbers I can pull. I use Lubrimatic gear lube and stock Bravo1. If I'm smart it will live. make sure you get a hold of me with any questions about pulling the motors from your beast. I only check in about 1 time per week, LAter Have fun ya f-ing freak HAHAHAHAHAH......take 'er sloooowwwwww. No cleaver or Bravo props by the way, tried a 22 Bravo, not good at all. Slower by 3 mph and pulled 56-5700 RPM. Rev 4 looks like the prop to beat for my set up.... |
