272 vs outlaw question
 

hello everyone i have been looking for a good used boat for some time and due to the need for wind protection my choices have been limited to boats with windshields.for those of you guys that have riden in both a 272 and a 25 outlaw how much more wind protection do you get from the 272 when seated with stand up bolsteres?i realy like the look of the outlawes but just not sure if its going to work with our cold weather?

We had a 272 for 7 years,,,,, the other bonus to the windshield is we were able to put up the bimini and drive home if we ever got caught in the rain.

I had a rear panel made for mine so we were totally enclosed

There is a noticeable difference, IF you drive the 272 sitting down and looking through the windshield, I don't. I drive my buddy's 272 like my outlaw, standing up looking over the windshield, so there is little difference to me. The 272 is a great boat, easy and fun to drive, however I like the ride and look of outlaws better. I am a little biased though!! My buddy's 272 with a 502 mag is just a tick slower than my 29 outlaw.

I have had 3 272's, Two has had windshields. My Baja Boss that i own now has a low profile fairing that wraps around instead of a glass windshield. I won't have another boat with a windshield, its hard to see through them when setting down. And i find myself standing all day long looking over it...However i live in florida. warm most of the time.. The fairing deflects the wind while setting and you can look over it easily..

I have not been in a 272 at speed. I have owned a 260 and now own a 280 both with windshields. I have driven alot of boats that just had farings or Outlaws.

With my 260 I had to sit, no drop downs, and I hated it. I just don't like sitting when I drive. With my 280 I can stand, but I can position myself where I am looking over the windshield, but get no wind in the face. So I really like driving my boat.

So driving an OL is ok, but I would rather have goggles when doing it. If it is a cold thing, there is no replacing a windshield.

thanks guys,the main thing with the windshield is the wife and the ability to put up full camper canvas in case of bad weather.

I sold the boat that is referred to in post #4. It has a full enclosure with having a wind screen. Never used it so Patrick may be able to tell you more about it.

My wife goes into the cuddy during bad weather along with anyone else left in the boat. You will get stuck driving. Do the Outlaw with some clear glasses so you can see. I always stand when driving and don't care for the look of the windshield. Loved our 25 Outlaw and they are faster than a 272 too.

I disagree. At least with the 272 I had. The 272's have a lot more room in the cockpit area than the 25ol and the one I sold is now running 93 mph on gps.
