i knew i had a soft spot on the starboard side but Kevin said i would be fine for a while when Adam was tearing into it yesterday he found some issues that cant wait and really need to be fixed now and if it does need the transom replaced it aint happening now as i am out of money after rebuilding my engine so i might not be at the run sounds like the same sh!t as last year just a different reason

Hell Ed if your boat can't make it I'm sure you have a room. Just load up the Hummer and head on up! Drag those boys up from down there as well. I still don't think Greg knows how to party. I want to see it in person.

geezis, sounds like I'll never see the water this season if i have to wait for you two to get your rigs fixed first...

By the way, anybody know approximately how long it should take a capable shop to replace a transom and about how much I can expect to pay a reputable shop on average? I know it really depends on exactly how fubar mine is, I'm just looking to get a ballpark of what other people have had to pay. I would assume the whole port side of mine is full of water down more or less to the drain plug at the keel.

There is no such thing as replacing half the transom. I don't mean to make your problem seems worse, but your probably looking at stringers as well being it's all tied into each other back there. I'd expect to pay anywhere between 3000-5000 as well as cost of removing all the hardware(ie.drives, transom assemblies, motors trim pumps, electrical) If it's the stringers your talking more.

I'd say a reputable shop should be able to do this project in 1-2 weeks.

My Baja was same way. The screws for the tabs were loose and the transom soaked in water. Also the drain holes on the inside the transom that drain the outer corners were just drilled and a good 6" higher than the bottom of those cavities. Then the bottom of those cavities weren't glassed, just exposed wood. You can guess how wood soaks up water. I cut out and replaced the whole transom last winter and every hole was sealed, and resealed. The trim tabs I welded plates to them and then thru bolted them like tabs should be. No sheet metal screws there to pull loose and leak. Just a couple of the sloppy build issues that I found during my winter rebuild. I'd thought the guys at Baja would have known how to build a boat better than myself, a non boat builder. I was wrong. :) At least now the boat can go to the bottom of the lake and the transom will not get wet again.

+1 Mine was right at 4k including R&R of the motor. That was the whole transom and just a little stringer work. Took about two weeks. Good Luck.

Ed I expect to see you in Detroit in in 29 days I'll have a ride for you regardless. Don't sit out a goodtime it just makes it worse.

Plus the run won't be the same without you.
