1995 Baja questions
My buddy's looking at this boat for sale. I suspect it's a 29', but the ad says it's a 1995 30'.
I'm guessing this is a 1995 Outlaw SST 29', is that correct? Can anybody tell me much about these models? Good, bad, etc.? My knowledge is pretty much limited to my 272. Curious about the cuddy configuration, etc. Would it have a cookstove or fridge in it? Separate head, or one under the bed? This one has twin 454s (carbed I'm guessing). There used to be a site where you could download factory brochures from Baja, but I can't seem to find it anymore. Anyone know where these can be had? Specs would be awesome too, going to look at it Thursday. Thanks all! http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/6052/baja290.jpg By puzzleboy at 2011-12-27 |
They didn't build the 29OL in 1995 first year was 97. Is it a 290 or 320? Only 2 models built in 95 close to 30' the 290 won't have a 24 degree deadrise. Will ride rougher than your 272 which has 24 degree deadrise. That site didn't go back to 95 when it was still up.

Yeah that is a 290. It is a 21 degree dead rise hull, it will ride better than a 272 just due to length, but not as smooth as a 29OL. It will be faster with the same power as a 29OL. Cuddy layout will be similar to other Baja's.

Anyone know what kinda speed could be expected from this hull with twin 480 hp (warmed over) 454s? 75 sound reasonable?
Any idea of the weight of this boat? Thanks! |

Any idea of the weight of this boat? Thanks! Don't know on weight probably around the 7000 mark. The 290 with 330's was a 70 mph boat. |
You know where it is in KY? I'd be happy to look at it if it's close.

I owned one for 3 years until I purchased a new 29 Outlaw in 2000. My good friend still owns a 95' with 330's and runs it on Lake Erie, but it will beat you pretty good. It is really just a 27' hull w/o the molded swim platform included so twin BB power is heavy in the back of that model. My boat had small block 350 Mags/Alphas and ran 65 mph but it was much better balanced, and I had mini K-planes to work with while my buddys 330 boat had single ram Boat Levellers that he did not use. He needs to keep the Bravo drives buried all the time to keep it from porposing out of control in rough water. Even at rest my boat sat 3" higher at the rear when we rafted together. I always seemed to be able to out run him in rough water, and his boat was 5 mph faster. The 9' beam makes them roomy, and my wife liked the galley cabin better than my Outlaw. For the right price I would own another one, but Lake Erie is better for 24 degree bottoms. My old 290 is down on the Ohio river now, and it is a good boat for the river, or more protected/less traffic lakes. IMHO They are fast boats, and turn nice and smooth but need more running surface like large K-planes to keep them under control. Another thing they do really well is around the docks! The short (flat) 21 deg. hull will spin around in its own length with twins. But hey most Fountains are only 22 deg. XT |
