Default 1.36gear ratio vs 1.50

COULD SOMEONE TELL ME HOW THE GEAR RATIO WORKS?i HAVE A BRAVO ONE WITH A 1.36 RATIO.I AM RUNNING A 23 MIRAGE.SHOULD I GO TO A 21 OR 22 OR GO WITH A 1.50 GEAR RATIO.DOES THE GEAR RATIO WORK THE SAME AS A CAR WOULD? DOES THIS EXPLAIN WHY I AM HAVING TROUBLE GETTING OUT OF THE HOLE?? I AM ALSO NOT RUNNING AT FACTORY RECOMMENDED RPM. IAM RUNNING AT 4400 NOT THE 4600 TO 5000 AS IT SHOULD BE.ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT

It seems odd that that boat would have those gears. You should be able to play with they prop to get the RPM's up. Save the gear swap for last resort. I think a prop will work though. Gottahaveit's right on the money can't beat that prop for all around performance.
