Buy a couple sets of wheel bearings in different sizes. You can always take them back. Congrats and good luck with the tow.

Thanks, another great idea! I'll be sure to add it to the list.

The current owner told me he would pack the bearings this weekend.

I just got back with the boat early this morning and LOVE it. Here are some EcoBoost gas mileages.

Truck: 2011 F-150 Crew Cab/4x4/Eco/3.31 axle/Tow rating of 8200#. The truck had 6003 miles before I left Thursday evening and now has 8162 miles. There were three people with bags for 2 nights worth of clothes, snacks, plenty of tools, jacks, spare tire, etc.

No trailer gas mileage:
70 MPH: 19.5-20 MPG
75 MPH: 17.8-18.3 MPG
80 MPH: 15.5-16 MPG

Hooked up to the boat on the way back to WI:
From Central AL to Southern IL was very hilly, so no cruise was used. During that stretch going anywhere from 65-75 MPH I got a consistent 11-11.5 MPG.

Once I was able to get on flat ground, I was getting 14.3 MPG at one point with cruise set on 65 MPH.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I was VERY impressed with this truck. The turbos work amazing when on tow/haul going down hills, gotta love the muffled jake brake sound! I had no problem keeping speed, or even gaining speed going up the biggest hills (6*+). This engine is really the little engine that can do everything!

Glad to hear you trip went well.

Nice boat! Mileage in the truck doesn't seem to be all that great though, considering all the buzz, etc. I think at 8200#, that 6 would be workin' pretty hard.

I should have also mentioned I had a 10-15 MPH S wind on my way down. I was wondering why I was getting so bad MPG going 80, so I checked the weather on my phone. Wind kills MPG, that's for sure.

In ideal conditions, I took a 100 mile round trip with the truck a few weeks back and got 24.6 MPG with it set on cruise at 55 MPH.

Love the nighttime pic at the gas station! Totally reminds me of all the road trips Ive taken with my boat down to Desert Storm. Nothing better than a road trip with the boat in tow!

Nice looking Baja!

I think 14+ mpg in a gas f-150 pulling a 25ft boat at 65-75 is pretty good.

Here is some comparison info for ya.

I have the almost the same truck except 5.0L.

2011 F150/5.0/4x4/3.55 gears/145" wheel base/20" wheels. Added SIDO exhaust and tonneau cover.

Around home in So IL...pretty flat ground.
55-60mph....I get anywhere 23-24mpg
60-65- drops down to 20-21.

Traveled to central Ohio in March for work. which was about 1200mi. Pretty windy there and back..either driving into or across. Averaged right around 18 for the trip with cruise set on 72-74.

It seems the sweet spot for gas mileage on the new F150s seems to be right around 57-58mph. Anything above that and it starts dropping

Only towed a few times. Saw about 14-15 with 20 ft Mariah cuddy behind it.

congrats on the boat and sorry for the hi-jack

Dude, who drives 55mph anymore? I tow @ 80mph and drive there too.

mcourson 04-20-2012 12:48 PM

Haha Jason....

Gas is 4/gal here. Driving 55 only cost me about 1-2 mins extra driving to work....not really a big deal.

However the extra 4-5 or more miles to a gallon add up. Say I get 2 more mpgs driving 55 over say driving 60....2 x 36 gal tank is 72 miles extra per that tank....Thats 3 extra days of driving to work.....keep doing the math and it adds up.

I would rather have to extra money to play with then put in my tank for an extra couple of minutes each day.
