sport - thanks for the offer, but I am really only interested in a Baja.
Does anyone know this boat, It seems like it might be a fair price, but Im a little worried about how well it has been taken care of. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/?cmd=...m=160873008606 |
We've decided to sell our 01' 272 Boss if interested. 496HO with 120 hours on boat. Fresh water boat will tons of options. Extremely clean and well maintened.
Not sure if you are interested in going that big...but throwing it out there as we are looking at going up to 302 or 322. |
Hi Wolfe - Thanks for the offer.
I have heard many good things about the 272, including the extra running surface and cuddy space. Unfortunately I am set on a 232 or 252 since I look to do more towsports with the boat then the average Baja'er |

Also I looked at a 232 today that is for sale here in Metro Detroit. It is a 2000 with red, yellow and purple graphics. Unfortunately for the past owner it was Repo'd recently and is now for sale from the bank. Does anyone know the boat by chance? I'm still really struggling with picking between the 232 and 252. . . |
there is a 232 on ebay for 10k right now buy it now only in TN i think

232's
Here's the link to the boat in MI I'm considering
http://detroit.craigslist.org/mcb/boa/3264190917.html Justin - do you know how the boat is between 17-21 MPH? Im really wanting to pull a wakeboard with the boat, but I know most I/Os have trouble in this speed range. cdail28590 - thanks for the heads up, unfortunately no bolsters in your buddy's boat. |

Good graphic and colors! |
So my buddy said he emailed you with no responce
|
mittens - Yes he did, I apologize I didnt respond been crazy busy. He mentioned in the email he's not in any hurry, so I didnt make it super priority. Nice looking boat.
XT - is it super odd that the boat does not have through transom exhaust? Is this a red flag? I'm sure the boat has been left in the water for some time because there is some waterlin discoloration as well as dark water lines in the engine comp. Was there a gelcoat change that reduces this concern in 2000? Just not sure what the boat is really worth . . . I'd be hoping to rack store the boat, 232 or 252 whatever I land up with. |
you mean my buddys boat has a water line? and no through hull exhaust?
also a TEA color stain is from the brown inland water. iron out and 5 min and its gone. if thats what your talking about. |
mittens - Sorry I've got two boats in that post. You're buddys boat looks great.
The other boat in MI - which is a few K less, is the one without the exhaust and with the water stains. |
OK I was wondering! haha.
Well good luck on your search. and if you happent o pick something up with bad stains remember IRON out... |
232 Lower Unit Corrosion
So Im looking at the 232 in the link below, but Im concerned about the condition of the boat. It seems like the story could be the owner took really good care of the boat until he knew he was loosing it to the bank?
The interior seems really good, but there is some chalking and fading to the gel. The bottom seems good and smooth, doubt the boat was ever beached. Can anyone tell me if the corrosion in the drive photo is salt or freshwater? If its freshwater why is it so bad? Any concerns for other parts of the boat or drive? It seems like the boat might have been left in the water a bit?? Also there is a water/rust line on the oil pan in the bilge, and the bilge is stained. Any thoughts on the boat? http://www.boattrader.com/listing/20...-232-101842135 |
I'm looking to upgrade to something bigger, so I just listed my 97 252 Boss on CL here in Dallas. New 502 MAG and new interior.

thoughts on value
232 is in MI -
Same old story of trying to figure out value - and I know value is what someone is willing to pay, but looking for some opinions based on known recent sales: Whats the true value of a 232 right now? I know most on boat trader around the 2000 year are asking between 18K - 25K. It seems like those have been on there for 6+months. Theres a 2002 the guy wants 29K but its been for sale for over a year. I know of a 98 that sold for 14.5K. So whats a 232 really worth; 2000, 7.4 MPI 200 hours, good shape, no trailer. |

Don't know if you settled on a boat yet, but as a reference, mine finally sold here in Dallas. I started at 18k, and finally started getting responses at 15. That's what I ended up selling it for. It had an almost new 502, EVERYHING in the interior replaced, including the wood, a badass stereo, and a trailer. I paid 20k for it 3 years ago with a 7.4 LXI motor, I just got kinda screwed by the economy, not even counting all the work I did to it. Keep that in mind when you make an offer on a boat you like. And if you haven't decided yet, I would HIGHLY recommend the 252, just for the ride alone. I have been in the 232, and that extra 2 feet makes a big difference. Also, I know you are wanting the swim platform, but my brother has a newer 25 outlaw with the aluminium platform, and it's actually more usable than the dinky one on the 252. And his cuddy is bigger, and his boat rides quite a bit better compared to my old 252. If I could go back 3 years and do it over again, I would probably look for a 25OL vs either the 252 or 232. Honestly, if I had a 25OL, I probably would have put off upgrading for a couple more years.

I'm 100% set on a windshield boat for MI weather, I like to go out on April and October. So that throws the OLs out. My new problem is planing speed with the 232, its not low enough, I think this will only be worse with the 252. I was mostly happy with the ride of the 232 I tested this weekend, but havent tried a 252. |
Hey.Just my two scents, after hours of research and the months of lookin on sites i found the pricing to be more realistic up here in Canada.Picked up 24OL SST with roller trailer fresh rebuild 502 for $16grand.It doesnt matter what your lookin for.I have seen 232's go for 15 to 17 all day long.Be patient use kijji.ca I thought for sure the best deal would be down south and they might be,i believe however its the right place at the right time deals...good luck believe me when i say ive been in your shoes..

Bump - I'm still on the hunt for a 232, any new listings out there beyond boattrader and craigslist?
|
There's what appears to be a really clean '98 252 on ebay. Can't post link. On my phone.

Thanks for the heads up on that one. Boat's been for sale for a while, but seems like its not in the best shape?
I've also narrowed the search to a 232, I dont think we need the 252 after being on both, and I was pretty happy with the 232's ride. The big problem now is planing speed, not time to plane, but lowest speed the boat will stay on plane. I'm looking for GPS 18 MPH, had a lot of trouble getting a 232 to do this with the 7.4, so looking for one with a 6.2 to see if the lighter engine will help planing speed. If anyone knows the lowest a 232 w/ 6.2 will plane let me know.

If you're looking for a 6.2MPI it'll have to be 2001-02 or newer if I'm not mistaken. As far as planing speed goes, I don't know that you will ever get a 232 to plane under 20-25MPH. My 232 Islander doesn't like to plane under 25MPH even with the tabs and drive all the way down. I think this is due to the 24 degree deadrise. Good luck with your search... I shopped around almost a year for the perfect boat as well, then settled for the closest thing i could find, and modified it to what i wanted.
