The search for a 232 or 252
Well I am still looking for a 232 or 252 this summer. I figured I'd start one thread (rather than multiple) to try to get a better idea about those models as well as post potential sales.
I know the Baja community is like a family so hopefully most wont mind helping. First inquiry: Anyone know this boat? http://rochester.craigslist.org/boa/2904500963.html |

My preference is definitly the 252 for the extra room and deadrise. But funds are limited, so Id be happy with either. I didn't find any 252s in the islander section, there are quite a few 242s but those are newer and quite a bit more expensive (over budget).

My mistake those were 242's the link above has a nice 2000 model for $34k. As a reference i sold my 2000 model 252 w/whipple charged 502 & 280ish hours for $28,000. It also had a labbed Bravo 1 prop and hydraulic assit steering. Keep an eye one Boat Trader thats were i find my 252. |

I talked to the owner of that boat before I bought my 25 OL. If I remember right, the lowest he would do was $23k...

Maybe 16k or 17k US funds could get this one bought? I like the 97' Boss package we offered on them. The extra decals can go by by.

Ah Yes Gull Island, only thing lacking from the moot is the warmer water.
I am hoping to look at the 252 in Rochester next week. I really like the black/grey/purple colors, very conservative for a Baja. I also like the Grand Prix schemes too. Im trying to stay away from the red/purple/other color but it seems like there are a lot of those out there. . . Hopefully will have something for one of the LSC area Poker Runs |
232 vs. 252 Ride Quality
So there seem to be a lot more 232s available vs 252s. And of course the prices is a bit better on the 232.
Will I really notice the ride difference from the dead rise on the 232 vs. the 252 for Lake St Clair? Also most of the time it will be my wife and I and may another couple. Do we need the extra room of the 252? |

Do we need the extra room of the 252? Yes there will be a good bit of difference between them. Remember the 252 is really 25' 6" long with a short 1' extension on the hull and the 232 is really 23' 2" with a 2' extension on the hull. Not to mention the deadrise increase the 252 is almost a 25 Outlaw hull. The 232 is a great little boat and would be fine on most days on St. Clair, but you need a 252 so you can go to Put-in-Bay! My neighbour just told me he may sell his 2002 Baja 232. Has 6.2 motor with not many hours. He take immaculate care of it and it still looks brand new. It is mint and I'm not just talking it up. If you wanna know more pm me.

232 to P-I-B
I'd love to make the trip to P-I-B. We were in CP last Tuesday and that'd be great by boat. Can it be done in a "semi normal" Lake Erie day in a 232? I can handle taking a weekend trip and if Sunday is 6-8 footers staying the extra till Monday to let the lake settle down. But if the 232 won't get me up north (Lexington, Port Sanillac, Grand Bend) and down south to P-I-B. Then I need a 252.
I'd also like to do some tow sports with the boat and I think (maybe??) the 252 is getting big for that?

Sounds like the 252 is my top choice, with a 232 in second.
Now if I can only find a color/graphic combo. . . |
Seems like there is currently a dry spell of 252s out there? Any new listings in Midwest/Great Lakes region?
|
I have a 252 and believe it is one of the best all around family boats you can find. It will tow anything from inflatables to skiers, it isn't an inboard ski/wake boat (owned 2 of them), but I would dare to compare the ride and comfort it gives you. The 232 doesn't have stand up bolsters, which I will never go back to sitting down again.

It does have bolsters...
|
Correct 232 = Bolsters
The 232 and up in the performance series has Bolsters.
The H2X and below goes back to sit down seats. Thats what drew the line for me on choosing a Baja, I definitly want stand up bolsters. |
