obnoxus, What else did you do to your boat and if you don't mind
me asking what kind of power are you running?
Thanks

502 MPI, Gil headers, labbed 23 mirage plus, and blueprinted hull. I do get a little porpose above 60 mph but a touch of tab calms it down,,, I sure would like to try a shortened drive and see what if anything it does. I have looked at other boats tied up next to mine and my drive looked way lower in the water. Of course I dont know running attitude.

I to have 502mag. labed prop and a vortech air. cant get the lug
over 66

My boat has always run better then most, cant explain why. I bought the boat new with the 7.4 330 php and with headers, and the prop done it ran 64. I had the bottom done and brought it up to 67, swapped out to a stock 502 and put me where I am now,,, It will run 74 MPH, but not the way I use the boat ( no fuel, no equipment etc ) so its not even worth talking about. I just say 71 because I can always prove that anyday. Which prop are you running?

Obnoxus,
What exactly is a "blueprinted hull"? Could you or anyone else explain this???

obnoxus 07-22-2002 09:24 AM

Most boats have a " hook " at the transom, In other words the hull is flat, then about 3" from the back of the boat the hull curves down to create a trim tab effect more or less which also robs speed. Blueprinting also sharpens the point where the transom meets the hull to help the water come off the bottom of the boat.

the best way to see in you need it or not is take a straight edge from the transom forward 4-6 feet and see if you can see daylight between the hull and straightedge.

I am assuming you have a 272 and you will gain form having it done to this hull, but if you dont have a 272 ask around, I have heard stories of very adverse handling problem after blueprinting certain hulls. Manufacterers will sometime build in a hook to fix a problem in the boats handling. GOOD LUCK !!!!!

I appreciate your info. I do have a 272. Trying to learn all the "performance marine" stuff now. New to this type of stuff. Therefore, I am trying to take everything in right now.

Hopefully, in a few years I will do some upgrades or move up in a boat. Don't know which one I'll do, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Thanks, Mike.
