in the end... thread is a out talking trash.. I never did talk trash about Baja...

Slightly "off topic" but, if anyone knows of a Cig Mistress for sale reasonable, please let me know, I have been "casually looking" for a few years now and had little luck, found one for 180K and one for 200K, which is ridiculous in my opinion for a 10 year old, 30 ft boat with stock power. That kind of money would put you in a newer 1075 boat with #6's in this economy. IF I could find one reasonable, I would put the extra cash together and buy it and skip the 29Outlaw I am looking for now, if not, I will buy a 29 Outlaw until I can afford my Outerlimits (which will probably be QUITE some time)
Thanks! Michael |

Why does it seem that everyone that has a boat built in the 80's wants to talk about how it is better in the rough stuff? Race courses are about as rough as a see can get, with giant cross wakes added into the already rough seas. I have never seen a race team pull out their 1979 "old faithful" to run on a rough days. We can respect your hull and the heritage that came along with it, however you don't need to dog the newer stuff to try to make your look better, there is a reason they changed them |

I been on MANY of both stepped and non step... many times Come to western Lake Erie in 6 footers we can go for a spin... I boat on lake ontario, you know....the bigger lake to your north. Again, I can't get over guys with older boats always falling back on the wave crushing thing as a cry for respect. If you want to go a spin you better hope for some conditions that somehow slow me down, but yet you ride faster.....otherwise you will be 30 mph behind me. I haven't seen it yet, nor do I expect to see it. My boat does just fine in the rough stuff, ever heard of a fountain? Bottom line is I don't face conditions every day that make me think about wave crushing capabities. In fact, isn't there something better to do if the weather is truely that bad? I know a guy that captains a 600 ft frieghtliner, I do not argue wave crushing with him, or payload.....and he doesn't argue speed, looks, or fun with me. My answer to the "my boat is a wave crusher, your new ride is crap is" Reliability Fuel Looks Comforts Technology Speed Wow factor acceleration ammenities resale parts availability Get over it dude, we are all boaters. If you are trying to convince me you are holding on to your 85 cig because you don't like the new cigs....I'm not buying it. Your video is nothing I haven't seen on the fountain, and maybe it is just a camera mic thing but your boat sounded like a loud smack/crack on every landing. |
bigger lake with more swell type water.. I will however say the 38 FOuntain I was on was far less impressive then any other newer 38 foot boat I been on...I can be assured your faster and newer but I would get there with no bruises... I am plenty reliable and very poleased with everythign about my boat, your right, if I wanted a payment I could easily have a stepped hull faster boat but I don't want a payment...
yes I have heard of a Fountain.... I will not go there with all the comments I hear and read about them let alone my experience riding in one...I will say the 42 is a WAY better riding Fountain then the 38... 2 different boats all together... I'm happy with my ride and as far as it slamming I bet anything it lands softer then yours.... I am not gonna go back and forth, I said my opinion you said yours... I know someones always bigger more expensive and faster.... I'm ok with that...

BTW, I am on the east end of Ontario, you know then end that sees wave the most due to the fact that we have a prevailing west wind for the most part. They break, and they get big.....make no question. I also boat on oneida lake, which is an average of 20 ft deep, you would be suprised how rough it can get. White cap swells. But why argue on the internet. You are gonna say your waves are rougher, and your boat does better in them......blah blah blah. I love my boat, have never seen anything it can't handle, just get tired of the old cigs guys talking about hitting 8-10 waves that we see maybe once a year. My tractor can pull a house down, but doesn't make for a great ride to work |
I was about to question WHY a Cig guy and a Fountain guy where trashing each others stuff on a BAJA forum, LOL
1000 Islands Poker Run is this weekend, come on up and settlet the arguement here! LOL If either one of you needs a co pilot, let me know, they are BOTH pretty nice rides, enjoy what you got, worry LESS about what the "other" guy has, everyone's happy, isn't that what its about? |

Maybe i got defensive but wanted to know why the hate when i've never had any problems with mine.
I will not say my Baja was a bad boat, but there were a lot of thing overlooked even being older boat compared to others, I also know a ton of guys with them and some have had some issues and some not as much.. I seriously think they are underrated and also think a lot is due to how they are ran and taken care of... didnt really try to derail thread but you know how that goes... |
I'm immune to all the trash talking....I dont care anymore....most of the reasons for have all
ready been covered. My comments were on the ride quality of a TS top gun vs. a sraight bottom Cig. Have you ridden in a TS Top Gun ?. As far as I'm concerned, they ride just as good as the straight bottom cig's I've ridden in, and do it faster, without porpoising. The only thing you do notice is some water noise from the water coming off the steps. Once I drove one, I knew it was going to be the next boat I own. |

I agree, no matter WHAT you own, someone is gonna "know somebody" who had bad luck with one [or Good luck with one, depending] The trash talk is really stale and I '[usually] try to stay out of it myself. I know my boat is no "world beater", but, it gets me out on the water, I enjoy it, so do my friends and family, and I dont owe on it. I guess its like the Chevy/Ford/Dodge arguements, people have argued about the merits and downfalls of each since before I was born, and will do so long after I am gone, but, it really hasn't changed anything, has it? |
That does it, i'm going to buy a 38 t/g tomorrow.
Just kidding :lolhit: |

I prefer how they knife through and ride up on top of the waves though, and in a level fashion:D |

Back to the original subject: When somebody builds a 33' boat with as much cockpit room as mine call me. Till then they can all keep shuffling things around to make room for people/coolers/ etc. wave crushing hull comes in handy about ummm 5% of my boating but the "dance floor" amount of cockpit space is priceless the 95% of the time. Rigging may be better on other boats but the wiring runs on the INSIDE of my boat and out of view so I`m ok with that :lolhit: I looks around in the classifieds and unless I`m going Black Thunder everything else is a downgrade in space, no thanx |
You guys need to lighten up a little. If a recent thread is bothering you then you definitely wouldn't have liked it back in 2001-2002 when the Baja and Scarab guys were going at it like a couple of neighborhood gangs. It went on for months. Got mildly ugly too. But everyone knew how to take it.
Buck |
The wiring... LOL

However, any modern offshore boat of similar size still would have walked him that day. When you can only do 50 mph, your boat and interior are dated, you find yourself talking about wave crushing all day |

Great comparison about the Shelby, I agree there is something to be said for a classic, on the OTHER hand a new ZR1 will destroy a 68 Shelby in pretty much every category, for less money. Guess there are 2 schools of thought here, to each there own (-:
its all good.. I don't care his much anyone trashes me.. I'm totally fine with what I have... if I wanted a newer stepped hull I woukda just go get a loan and buy one... I can assure it wouldn't be a Fountain though...... |
