The OP has an Expedition not an Excursion. The Excursion can handle a 33 or bigger.
I think you can carefully make it by with the Expedition with either boat you are thinking about... Depending on trailer/situated on trailer and also tongue weight. Just be safe and leave extra room for braking! Gas excursion gvwr 8600 Diesel 9200. |

Before you do make certain the brakes on trailer and tow vehicle are very good working order. Just my 2 cents So looks like concern is safety in respect to weight while in tow and no issues being maneuverable?? Otherwise, go for the 33??? |

I sold my 01 272 in September and just put a deposit on a 03 302 few weeks ago. I love the room in the cockpit of the 302 and happy with the cabin space as well. Boat has the ext swim platform which is really nice. I personally am not a outlaw fan and the 302 met all my requirements. I think besides the 33 outlaw, the 302 has the most cockpit space in these size boats.
There was a nice 03 302 boss package with 496 mags in pa for sale at big bee boat. Looked at it in October and had around 110 hrs and price was around $48k with trailer. I wanted HO's or 500's so I passed on it. I tow with my 97 c3500 dually and my new boat has electric brakes on trailer. 302 with eagle triple axle trailer has to be around 10,000-10,500 lbs |

I am an outlaw fan (so is boss) which make this hard to decide. Like the 29 and easier to find deals. Like the cockpit space and cuddy of 302 and 33. Would like a 302 but with windscreen only. Will probably end up with what ever deal I find.. but purpose of this tread was to perhaps sway me on holding out for a 33 which pushes limit of my storage (side of house) and slightly exceeds my tow vehicle. But at some point, I do WANT a 33! |
I love my 33 and it makes me super proud to be a Baja owner. So happy with the boat that even though I can afford to upgrade boats I have no reason to. Nothing "feels" like a good overall bang for the buck compared to what I have.
Your expedition will tow a 33 fine. The DRIVER has more to do with SAFETY then the rig. MOST accidents happen due to human mistakes then equipment failures. You could use a Semi to Tow a 33 and if the driver is stupid they still can crash and kill someone! Yes EOH trailer brakes are a must. You will eventually need to upgrade Tow rigs. If you are in an accident your grandma could be sued for co-signing on the vehicle for you (google it). Its sad but its impossible to protect yourself 100%. Anyone can get sued anyday for anything. I could bring a lawsuit against you for XXX tomorrow and you have 100% nothing to do with XXX and don't even know me but you STILL have to hire a lawyer and defend yourself! The person making the lawsuit might lose once you spend lots of time and money proving your innoccent, but you STILL had to deal with all the hassle and waste money. Good luck on the sale of your 25 and enjoy the search of your new 33! Be patient and you will find a great deal that you fall in love with! |

After doing a very quick web search on a 2011 Expedition its GVWR is 7441 and the weight of a 33 is roughly 7500 not including the trailer. You are only over weight by whatever the trailer is. With that said I wouldn't hesitate at all to use the expedition. |
