I figured I'm giving up about 50hp to the manifolds, and haven't really been running it until I get a real exhaust, but I hadn't considered it actually snuffing the engine. Is that a real possibility? From some generic calculations I'm currently putting out about 350hp.

So...tested the new prop over the weekend.
23p 4 blade Revolution 4.
~60g of fuel on board.
Fresh drive fluid
Drive shower trimmed up
3 adults and an ice chest
Bimini top folded up on the front windshield
Huge tube tied to the back sun deck
80* weather on a slightly choppy lake
Top speed squeezed out was 54mph at an indicated 4800rpm
No blowout to speak of!
The new prop felt great - nice shot out of the hole, handles way better, much more responsive to speed adjustments, and even docked/loaded up easier as well. It achieved the 50 mph mark much much easier than it did with the M+. I was pretty stoked with the performance of the prop, but was hoping for just a bit more top speed.
It looks like that may be all this boat has got. The motor is an Eagle 502, so that should be a reliable part of the equation. I had a few toys on board, from the reviews that I've seen have shown this boat to go 60-65mph with the stock 454. I otherwise love the boat.

Have a M+ 23p sitting in the garage....Previous owner said it would get around 60-61 out of it....I may have it labbed and try it out...

I've procured a nice set of headers and sending the carb and distributor out for professional tuning. I'm sure that dumping these manifolds should solve a lot of my problems. I'll keep you all posted.

Well I may have found part of my problem. It looks like the wrong adaptor plate for my square bore to the spread bore manifold, and to top it off the way way the Quickfuel carb is rigged it was mounted backwards so the 1-3/4" secondaries were trying to squeeze through these teeny 1-1/4" holes.

Until spring at least. Sucks, lol. Up here in NorCal I could probably drop her in around march which still gives me a month or two of tuning before the season really opens up. I sent the carb and distributor off for a custom tune so along with the new headers I bought this will be a whole new boat - super stoked!
I checked the bottom too for straightness and it looked perfect. This should be a fun summer.

That's great baja rooster, I bet that's 90% of your problem right there.
Mines fuel injected so if something did go wrong...I'm screwed. Lol
Can't wait to see how this works out for you.
I did the straightedge thing on my hull too, I do have a slight hook...probably an 1/8" but still I didn't like that, but oh well.
I'll be waiting to see things go for you.

I sent the carb out to a specialty shop and it turns out that it had the wrong body on it. I didn't quite understand the nuances of the problem other than it was an 830 body on an 850 set up. All I know is that it's just another area for improvement.
In some ways I'm glad that spacer was on there as I didn't know that I was having fuel starvation issues. (3-4 pounds at wot). It may of very well spared my motor working as a rev limiter/air restrictor.
