I have around 500 hp in my 272. I agree with the above on the 25+ I have a mint new and couldnt really spin it past 4200 however did have some engine issues and have not put it back on since so I can not nessarily confirm. My 23+ looks quite worked but starting to get beat up. I spin that 5100 rpm with more trim still left on table. Even putting the 25 back on I doubt I will pull more than 4500.

What speed are you seeing running the 23 @ 5100?

Not too good 66 gps... 3/4 tank tabs negative trim (didnt realize at time) 2 people... motor definitely not tuned in and cant say I have actual 500 hp but would be willing to say close to it.

Bingo. That's a lot more HP than I've (we've) got. They aren't fast boats rooster, but I think you've seen with 500 HP They will run 70 (not 48). I think you'll be happiest with the rev 4 22 on your boat.

From what I can gather I'm closer to the mid 400s in power, but it really did like the Rev4 23p, so that'll be my main wheel until I get into blowers and stuff.

I'll give the M+ a try with Brad's tweaking on it, and call it good there.

I'll add some exhaust over the winter but mainly for reversion issues as from what I understand there really isn't much of a performance gain on top end with headers - maybe 2-3mph at most. That still puts me under the stock 454 performance. I guess that I'll crawl under the thing and wax the bottom, lol!

Somebody mentioned putting a straight edge on the bottom to check for a hook.
Did you try that?
I did on mine and noticed about a 1/8" bow or hook on mine in about the last 8' of hull.

Wonder how much is too much and just how bad 1/8" will effect my top end.

Dont wax the bottom Rooster, it will slow you down. The hydraulic tension creates suction on the hull. Much like water beading after a wax job or when you can fill the cup up past the top but it doesn't spill over. Actually you could wet sand it with 1500 or 2000 grit and do better for speed. I never wax below the chine.

Yea, that was somewhat tongue in cheek. If anything the bottom should look like a golfball, right?

Just my .02 but I wouldn't waste the time or money on anything that would add more horsepower to your boat unless you plan on keeping it for a long time. First off you will never get your money back out of it, and second, it is a Baja, it takes a lot of HP to gain speed with them. I personally got a great deal during the peak of the recession on my 25 and have put some money into cleaning it up and making it look real nice like. It gets me on the water, it does 70 mph, I want to do 100 plus, so I will be in the market for a 42 fountain in a year or 2. For what I would spend to add HP to my motor to even get me in the mid to high 80's I could sell it and be in a 42' boat that does 80 mph with stock merc power. Just some food for thought. If it is your forever boat, or for a long time boat, then I would say it is worth it, to you. Hind sight being 20/20 I should of just bought the 42 right from the get go, no 3'itis every few years and it would be paid off by now waiting for new drives and more power. Baja's are great boats for what they were intended, entry level performance boats. If the speed bug has bitten you I would say enjoy what you have until you can come out ahead on it and sell it for a hull that responds better to HP gains.
