Default 2018 Winter Upgrades

After the Miami Boat Show I got the itch to start working on the Boat again. First project up is to finish my steering upgrade. The Hydraulic steering is awesome but because the new wheel has a keyed non-removable hub I couldn’t use the adapter that came with the helm which made the steering wheel to far away from the seat. Essentially I was standing in mid air when I drove so to fix this I’m putting a short adapter on with a quick disconnect in between the adapter and wheel. This solves several issues 1. Moves the steering wheel closer. 2. Makes it easy to take the dash plannel off and work on stuff. 3. Makes the driver seat an easier to access

Had to rent a puller but got the Wheel off finally

Default Quick release progress

Almost ready to go back on the boat.. I need to exchange out the 4” hub adapter for the 2” one. Overall with the 2” hub adapter it’ll bring the wheel 3.8” closer to me

Will you be able to fit into the seat without taking the wheel off or is it going to be nascar style? Mine is pretty tight, if I don’t have the bolster dropped down I have to get my legs in first the sit. But while in the seat the wheel is in a perfect spot for me. This shot is from when I was mocking up the dash but shows where the wheel is in comparison to the seat, but my helm is a tilt helm, this is tilted up.

I don’t think It’s going to be nascar style where you have to have the wheel off to get in the seat at least that’s not my goal. I took some measurements tonight and the outside of the steering wheel is going to be 9” from the dash before it was 5 1/4” Also I never sit when I drive I’m to short (5’7”) and I loose to much visibility of the port side especially since my windscreen is painted. How far off the dash is it to the ousted of wheel when it’s straight?

The adapter and quick disconnect adds 3.8”

Outside of the wheel is 7” and the helm is another 2” off the dash putting the outside of the wheel right around 9” from the dash

Steering wheel update:
The distance is perfect either sitting or standing. Also there is enough room for me to slide in with the seat up or down.

Head on shot

Head on with the wheel off

Ignore the goofy smirk but imagine the wheel almost 4” closer to the dash and you can see why I was standing in the middle of nowhere when I was driving

Side shot with me sitting.. it’s a little tighter to slide in but still can with the wheel on
