33 Outlaw cockpit update
3 Attachment(s)
Well, my 98' cockpit was showing signs of her age, so I decided to play around with it since its late fall here? Still in 70s!
Came out pretty well!! Pics to follow, but this is what I did. Covered all dash panels and glove box in white carbon fiber vinyl. Made NEW Gauge panel and put GPS in middle, had to relocate fuel gauge down by halon indicator! Now I can see it!! Put new decals on glove box, center of switch panel and key panel. Changed color of gauge rims from Teal to Silver, removed teal from cup holders (polished underneath!), covered angle bezel for depth guage with the carbon vinyl, repainted bolster backs (white where hand rails are) also used Duplicolor Fabric spray to change all light green and pink to gray and black. (Vinyl will last another season or 2 until I have XT make me some skins and completely get rid of teal. Came out pretty good! Thanks, I used 1/8" aluminum and covered with vinyl. I used heat gun and folded on back side to make sure it didn't lift on edges.
At first I used a piece of cardboard to lay out the gauges, and made a rough template, then I bought a piece of poster board from Wally world that had graph lines and layed it out a gain and cut it out. I used that to transfer to the aluminum and cut out with hole saws, etc. Coudnt find a pic of the poster board template. The fuel gauge was the center gauge that I relocated. |
Awesome work brother ! The money your saving goes to the gas tank right?

Well, was playing around and went to West Marine! Bought a new LED bow light and changed out the anchor light base (bad connection). Then installed some pole holders under the hatch, got tired of throwing them in the cuddy!
Not sure why the top too are sideways and upside down?? Crazy iOS!! |
Just let me know when you are ready for new cockpit vinyl skins.

Looks great bud! I remember doing all that to my 29 with the blue carbon fiber...what a PITA but turned out great in the end! Going to do my Hustler in orange carbon fiber.... I need to look into the bow light you have...mine is a hide-a-way that quit working last time out...naturally.

This is true.. It never ends.. But, I can tell you no matter how much I work on my boat, it's relaxing! I would trade any day at work for a 1/2 day of tinkering in the boat!!

Stop by Graphic warehouse and took a side shot. Hopefully they finish up by next week, but I told them I wasnt in a hurry since I will be out of town most of next week.

Gonna be bad azz!
|
The solid sides look very clean... Ive been thinking about doing a classic dark blue on the side of mine. I think it keeps its looks much better than flashy multi color type paint jobs.

Going for this, minimal with some color. (This is a pic of a 26 and I covered the red stripe as I am not putting it and stretching the X's down further) Damn, yall ruined my reveal! Lol. IGETWET, I had to relocate my fuel gauge (which was an awesome move, I can actually see it now seated) if you looked at the new alum or template... it was tight! Rims were almost touching, but FIT!! Now my damn Livorsi gps speedo isnt working and I cant seem to get my Nav GPS to give it the signal. :-( the needle is more fun to watch than the GPS digital speed!! |
Should look sharp once done. How much was it for the wrap if you dont mind me asking?

So the story goes... we have a graphics company do 60 or so wraps on trailers for our 100 year celebration. Long story short. Free. I helped put the metallic black wrap on that took us a day. So all they have left is to finish up the install and put the vinyl cut graphics on. We probably spent north of 200k for our trailers so he basically threw it in. It started as getting vinyl for cost price, but they ended up throwing that in especially after I helped in putting th wrap on. I think he thought I would just watch, but power boaters dont know how to watch!!!!!!! He was impressed at my efforts and now he wants to print a wrap and do it again in a couple years!! |
I like your answer... It just wouldn't apply to me. lol

Ok, so my graphics guy texted on monday a.m. And said they would be done friday. Great.. An hour later, he calls me and starts conversation like this..."man, I hate to make these calls". HA, several thoughts go through my head, first, was if someone ran into my boat with a forklift... I then thought.. awesome, boat shopping!!
Nope, he says, his supplier supposedly shipped the wrong vinyl, that we applied already. Well, we get to wrap it again tomorow. Hopefully we can actually finish b/c we figured out how to lay it down well last time. The new cast metallic black looks better than the calendered we put on the first time. In the mean time, I bought some more bumpers and was searching for some good fleece bumper covers. 25-$40 a piece!! Screw that, I went to Joanns and bought $25 worth of material and made my own!! Yep.. I can sew! Lol |
Looks good I did the same thing... I don't use mine much tho since I boat on a muddy reservoir. not so much my boat but rafting off and the bottom where the waves hit always ends up with muddy streaks on it so you have to wash it every time out or you end up with fine scratches in your gel.

So we made some progress today.. Rewrapped both sides and have most of graphics on. Just missing another white X.
The new black metallic looks cool and the red really stands out! |
