My 496 had a (all new) 750 duel feed Holley, RPM Performer intake, 430 hp oval ports head 496 (stroker motor) from Carolina Machine, K&N, stock exhaust manifolds with Captain's Call and a Mirage Plus 25P.
It pulled like a car and would beat a lot of bigger/better boats. Rough stuff - they call it a Hammer for a reason. Decent water it would really haul.
