I've read a healthy twin engine 29 Outlaw with 454 MAGs will do 75mph. The 25 will do mid to high 60s with 502. I'm in the Baja Forum so someone call bull**** if I'm off base:ernaehrung004:

I had a friend with a 29 with 496 HOs. Lucky to see 70 mph.

Sold them for many years, owned a bunch of different Baja's

A 7.4 29 would be comparable to the 25, but the 385’s, external steering and
k planes is a big upgrade. I had a 29 w/7.4’s for about 2 years ( which was about a year and a half too long)….it was a low 60 mph boat, went up and took a ride in a 29 with 385’s, was ready to go home with that, but rode in a 29 w/500’s and came home with that….. that being said, the 385 boat was quite an upgrade over a 29 7.4, which performs like a 502 25 Maintenance, the 30 is bad, the 29, the back seat cushion comes out by removing 2 bolts from under the seat base, and it improves accessibility quite a bit. I pulled my 29’s with a short box k1500 4x4 for a couple years, but after getting tugged down a wet ramp, that got replaced |

Perhaps the engines aren’t firing on all cylinders🤦🏻♂️

Remember, the Chain (of Lakes, Northern IL) is really shallow in a lot of spots. So much so there have been performance boat wrecks there because of such.
A twin engine straight bottom boat is going to dip a fair amount when planing. For that reason, I'd tend to at LEAST want the ST-16 Bennett tabs OR K-planes that are at LEAST 280 size. That way you can drop the tabs when planing to get up quick, and not dig too deep. |
