The only caveat is that it was 45 degrees that day in Dubuque, Ia.

I'm still saying 78 is what an HO boat will see - (80 after labbing)

Chris, you know where my cash has gone

Guess who will helping out with gas in Clear Lake

I can see high 80's with 525's, is the 30' a brand new hull design all together? I like the lines of the 29' and loved the 33' enough to almost buy one. I would be happy with a 30'w/525's...Then I'd add some Whipples

I think its entirely possible for a 30 with 525's to run 89. My 33 with 500 efis runs 78 WITHOUT labbed props. I 'll bet I could get 80 with a little of Darrins prop magic

Only way to compare is to have the exact same engines. From what I hear the 525 EFI is quite a bit stronger than the 500 EFI's. Some people that I have talked to that have owned boats with 575 SC's and 525 EFI's thought the 525's were almost as strong.

Best way to compare the new 30 Outlaw to the 29 and 33 would be with 496 HO's because that is what they are both equiped with the most. I was talking to Hawkeye boat sales and I thought they said the 30 Outlaw with 496 HO's GPS'ed around 78.

All you need to do is look at the props that Baja is shipping with 30's (26's and 28's). That speaks volumes as far as I'm concerned. These are the same props they shipped with 29's.

Chris - you are right that all the stuff about speed is just speculation however, if I ever see a boat sitting somewhere and want to know how fast it will run, I just look at the props. Those 26's and 28's tell me 73-75mph and 77-79mph.

Also - I always thought the 525 had only 500hp until I looked on Merc's website. They list the 525 at 525hp. (but they also list the 500HP at 500hp).

If in fact the 525 makes 525hp, this would make it 200hp more than 496HO's in a twin setup. That would be a 10mph difference in my book.

At 82 gps, my Gaffrig speedo
reads 85, it's within 1 mph up to
around 65.

29 Outlaw is right, just look at the
props their running.

My 30" labbed bravo's at 5300 rpm
gets my 81-82 gps, middle of the
summer, normal conditions, day in
day out, yes I've seen faster but
this is the norm.

Just do the math:

30" pitch props at 5300 rpm, top end
speed, no slip 100.7 mph

Now it's been told that Bravo props
are actually over rated, around 1.5"
of pitch, so refigure: 95.35 mph.

So, at 30" pitch 89 mph would = 11%
slip.

And at 28.5" pitch 89mph would= 7%
slip

Vee hull are usually figured around
a 15% slip factor, so this puts it
down to the low to mid 80's.

As far as the other manufacturers,
and their claims,
I hooked into a 2001 35 lightning
with 500 efi's last year, I eeked
by him, he claimed he was doing
88

An identical boat to that ran in the LOTO
shootout: 79 mph.

All in all, claims can be made, but the
truth isn't generally known 'til your
riding in it.

Once again, I say 75-77 ho's
Lowto mid 80's 525's

Exact same here. Up to about 65 I'm within 1mph. At 78-79gps the speedo is bouncing between 80-82.

I thought that fluid in the speedo was supposed to keep it from bouncing. I have noticed that Baja came with 2 different types of Livorsi Monster speedos. One type has 80mph at about the 11:00am position and the other type has 80mph at about the 1:00pm position. I have the 11:00am type. Maybe that's why I bounce.

A few days ago Livorsi confirmed this with me when I was getting ready to send him my speedo back for repair. They said it was not enough for me to just say "2001 29 Outlaw Monster speedo". They needed a picture cause there was more than one type.
