For the people who have actually owned a Baja....

Nope, Southern Illinois.
My dad had a 25 Outlaw and really wanted a Cat. After searching on the net and sending me countless emails on what I thought, we flew out to LHC to see and ride in a Magic. Feel in love with them from the get go. Ordered one that day. This was right after they came out. We were the only one in the Midwest and still might be if he still had it.
One day I might like to have a Magic 28' deckboat. There is definitely nothing like that out here.

It seems to me that there are usually a certain number of "wannabes" on these forums that try to imply knowledge that they don't have by bad-mouthing Baja boats. Let's face it, Baja owners are an easy target.
Baja doesn't try to build the fastest boat on the water. We all know that anyone who has enough money can be the fastest. They don't care about being known as a "race" boat. We all know that they are not designed for that. But what they do shoot for is a well-handling, predictable, higher-performance ride than some other builders. And they prefer to make their numbers by attracting a high percentage of potential buyers.
I suppose that is why they own about 38% of the performance market.
These "know-it-all" idiots just want to appear that they know more than the rest of us. I have yet to know of a Baja boat owner who wasn't very happy with his purchase. Sure, we all have problems from time to time, as does anyone else with a Fountain, or any other boat. There may be a few high dollar rides that are near perfect, but for what those rides cost, who couldn't make them perfect. Most of us can't afford a 300K plus boat. (I know I can't).
I have owned 5 Bajas, and have enjoyed each one. That is what we are paying for, right?

I compare Chevy's and Fords to Porche's and BMW's all the time. The BMW is $200/hp and the Chevy is $90/hp.
The BMW is making the German's rich, the Chevy is allowing the American to eat.
Yet Americans still prefer the BMW!!!
Yes, I compate the BMW, Lexus, Mercedes,.... to Chevy's all the time. Just like when I compared my Camaro to the Mercedes E500 this morning, at the red light, when I left him in my dust!!!
There's nothing wrong with comparing a Cig to a Baja, or a Fountain to a Bayliner. Just as long as you consider all the variables... Price, ride, quality, insurance, construction, hardware, value, etc...

I jsut read an old article that compared the new Mustang to the new, 400hp GTO. It's a no brainer that the GTO is better built, better technology, more HP, faster, better ride quality, handling, etc.
But the mustang won the comparison because of looks and value!!!
Value being number one!!!! IN ANY MARKET, VALUE IS ALWAYS NUMBER ONE!!!!!! And Baja definately has the value.

Ive had my baja for three seasons now. It had 272 hours on it when I got it and it has well over 300 now. So far its been turnkey. And it's an 88 240 sport. Biggest repair has been the raw water pump seized, merc engine, and blew the belts. I did replace the engine hatch wood. Original rotted out but I put marine grad wood back in. Its good looks, performance and affordable. If I had the money, Id have a cig, but I still wouldnt bad mouth a Baja.
