Depends on what his credit was when they granted him credit. The court filing from CMI and Livorsi didn't start that long ago. way after he took on Stelling and Gaffrig. So assume his credit was still okay, so they granted him more. Then he paid them, so they would keep shipping him product. It plays out just like Long Duck posted.

Plus, as lots of people on OSO thought, Trick was or was heading for the big time. The "smaller" companies like Gaffrig wanted to move product. Maybe they didn't do a good check.

An even better example is that I can walk into my local Chevy dealer tomorrow, and buy a ZO-6. GMAC will approve my loan for $75K, and I will drive away. They won't check my income, and I assure you that I can't afford that loan.

This is may or may not be the case, let me explain...

Business credit is ALLOT different from your personal credit that is attached to your social security number...Although allot of manufactures and suppliers ask for your personal information most company's rely on the payment history to other company's......give you a personal example...

I sold my car audio retail store last year....When I atarted the store a few years prior I started ordering from distributors and the products were sent to my retail store COD/Company Check. After 6 months of never skipping a beat the company granted me 30 day net terms with a 10k limit. Once the distribution company granted me 30 day terms I applied directly with the manufactures of the products I was buying from the distribution company. The manufactures granted me 30-45 day terms at a credit limit of $40k.

Now a distribution company gave me 10k and 5 different manufactures gave me $40k each....Do the math, thats $200k in totally unsecured credit from manufactures and 10k from a distributor.

If the credit terms in Marine Parts is the same as they were in car audio I know EXACTLY what happend to Trick....

Fred went out and applied for credit with all these manufactures when his business credit was good or he used business references that he was on good terms with who gave him a good pay history. So CMI grants them a credit line....they use up the entire credit line buying product, sell people the product never pay the bill, or never pay the total bill. CMI stops shipping Trick product, all of a sudden Trick starts claiming CMI product sucks and Trick moves on and sets up shop with Sterllings and does the same thing....

I talked to and purchased gear from the guy who bought Fred's old 39' Sutphen, and I heard ALLOT about Fred's less than professional business practices. I also heard allot about how Fred screwed the sh*t out of him on two boat deals, including the Sutphen and Fred didnt even get the guy a reach around....The funny part was when I mentioned something about the Sutphen when it was on ebay....all the Fred "Nut-huggers" came to the rescue for him.....who is huggin his nuts now?

Difference is .........that he is selling off stock on hand and doesn't want negative feedback. He's the king of cup holders, that's fer sure. :)

Wouldn't there be a larger customer base thru ebay vs his website?

I would have trouble conscience wise buying anything off him thru ebay knowing what he is doing to fellow board members. I'd pay more for that reason alone.

Well, I can tell you one thing accomplished by this thread....I'm looking for some switches and a couple of chrome fire extinguishers with the anodized purple holders for the boat. I've bought fire extinguishers from Fred before and would've probably bought them from him again in the near future if it wasn't for this thread. So, for what it's worth, thanks for the heads up Jon.:drink:

I agree. I see people's credit all day long. I would also like to add that most of the time, a "business" credit card will NOT appear on the individuals credit- even if they applied for the account under their own name!

This is 100% correct....Commercial Lines of credit (business credit cards, commercial lines of bank credit, and so on) DO NOT show up on your personal credit report....

I also want to thank the person (I will keep it their identity to myself) who sent me the email confirming my above analogy of what happend to Trick and the lines of credit with CMI, Stellings, and other manufactures....

Threads like this need to continue. I almost bought a couple sets of turn down exhaust tips from him this September, but decided to hold of until spring.
I have seen his name all over the board, and had not heard any negative comments, so naturally I would do business with a fellow OSO member. In fact you can still access his web site from the OSO links, making you think you would be dealing with a reputable approved vendor.
I know many business fail, and no one goes into business hoping to fail, but it is what you do when it does fail that defines your character. It is unlikely that everyone will get there money back, but direct, and honest communication goes a long way during tough times.
Just my two cents.
