Safest thing to do is have the engine builder do the install.... then there can be no doubts.

I was told back then that Jack didn't want anything to do with pulling & installing engines in boats and Bubbas 540 was in and out 3 times because of OIL leaks.

Every individual has their favorite engine builder. You have yours and I have mine.

Peace..

But your great friends with one of the bad guys here, Derreberry, or however you spell it. :lolhit:

If people actually knew you and the back story, they would understand. Every engine builder you go to has a problem.....the common theme, YOU! Probably the same reason why every person you contact about doing motors for you says lose my number.

I do feel sorry for Art. 2 fricken years is crazy. Pull it out of there man. You seem to have a real love for the sport and thats awesome.

Besides putting up nude pics, porno sh*t, talking about booze and vicadin, you share absolutely nothing that is relevant to high performance boating.

Oh, we did have a great bbq down here in Tucson with all of the money you gave us. :coolcowboy:

Keep being a ghost, at poker runs, at shootouts, at the lake, on the internet.

Hope ya'll enjoyed the BBQ i always contribute to the eliterate ,OSO boating vendors have no problems taking my $$$$$ BIG Daddy and Larrys would of took it again if i was dumb enuf to give him a blank check. Could'nt be happier since we distanced ourselfs from Larrys Engine & Marine ..and go F@ck yourself

Shooter did this motor for me over the winter my only issue was with the lightning headers that i supplied and almost lost 18K due to them sucking in water!!!! Put the stock back on and not an issue go figure because lightning cant but that is a whole new story.. Paul was easy to deal with and when we were having the issues he stated "Scott if you need me I will be there or bring it to me and i will tear it down and tell you exactly what happened" At the end of the summer i will envite him here when it cool to really get all that this motor has to give

This is one of my motors. I am known as Shooter (from back in The Nam) on Team baja marine and my REAL name here...Paul Slonaker, (pslonaker). Wish I could change it to Shooter here also, but...

Ive always had really god luck with lightning products.

Can either of you guys fill me in a bit on the problem?

I cant tell if its just reversion, or if there was a leak?

Hey Uncle Dave...how are yas? I dont know which it was but I am leaning towards reversion. I dont know that for fact...just using an educated guess. The cam in that motor is a Crane 168741 hydraulic roller. Scott had the headers pressure tested and "suposidly"...they passed. The exhaust on the motor now is the stock Mercruiser cast iron manifolds and there isnt an issue one for any leaks or reversion. I ran a set of Eddie Marine aluminum manifolds of a more potent 540 for well over a year and never had a reversion problem running the same cam. I have heard some stories from other people having reversion issues running Lightening Headers and a healthy cam. Some of the other guys that I have talked to are not having any issues with the Lightening Headers at all...but everyone of them that is NOT having an issue is running the stock cam that came in the motor...hmmmmmm. I spent 6k on a set of CMI Headers 2 -1/2 years ago and went 2 mph faster. I can not relate how pissed off I was. I sold them and bought another set of Eddie Marine manifolds and never had a problem and said TO HELL WITH THE 2 MPH LOSS. Scott and his crew shut the motor down and went home for the night and came back the next day and the motor was full of water...if I am remembering correctly. Scott called me and I was ready to get my ass on a plane and go out to Arizona and figure out what happened...then I told him to pull the headers off and put the stock manifolds back on and drain the milky oil out and try it again. They did, but the lifters were raising Hell with water in them, but they finally got all the water out and the motor started running like it should. Scott hasnt dialed it in yet, but his Outlaw is going to scoot when he does.

Hangin in there Shooter-!

Getting ready to go to lake nacimiento next week.
Im absolutely Jonesing to get going and work is going to be agonizing tomorrow.....

Im taking both boats with me this trip, because in a 5 group trip someones ride is always allergic to water and hell, I pay for em - might as well run em!

I got my 500/500 406 back in the tunnel hull this week and I'm going to run it against a guy with basically the same rig with a 300hp outboard so this should be interesting....

That cam doesn't look to radical to me......
It does have a bunch -o- lift, but the durations aren't ridiculous and the 112 lobe sep is fairly tame- I try to keep the lobe sep at 110, but that also means a custom grind almost every time with my pet cam company (Engle) grrr $$$$$

2mph equates to about 40 hp-
Worth the 6K? Not likely not in a pleasure rig.

hmmm indeed.
I've always had good luck with lightnings, with the exception of them not being able to deliver small block headers to me in a reasonable time, but the products have held up and didn't leak (for me).

Sucks Scott is having issues, but customer supplied parts are always a gamble. That said I would have taken the exact same gamble as Scott.

Sounds like you did absolutely everything you could have for Scott - and therefore retain your reputation as not only an awesome guy, but a competent builder as well.

Call in "drunk" and come out with us!

Uncle Dave
