BTW, I need to say this as I am trying to run out of the room---kinda hard to do with one foot stuck in my mouth.....
All joking aside, Tim (Sharkey's Images), I sincerely wish you and your photography business all the best!

I haven't been back on there in years, I'm sure he is still trying to find "new" customers, I'm not sure how many repeat customers he would have, Smitty

Sorry Nort,
I thought I would provide a visual to this thread of the boat that seems to be part of this topic with a little humor thrown in.
I am better with images rather than words, so I let my images speak for me. I think my membership of 10 years allows that ?

As I said, no offense taken whatsoever.
I knew "THE GIRL" threw you off !

And yes, I was not talking about the boat flyin' .
I don't know any of the players here involved.
I apologize for the interruption.
Now back to the real purpose of this thread !!!

5 or 6 years ago when he emerged with his OUTRAGEOUS hp claims that were never backed up by having a boat actually gain speed anywhere close to what he claimed he posted a dyno sheet on Speedwake. When we did the math based off his bsfc/lbs per hr numbers we figured out his OUTRAGEOUS 20+% correction factor he was using. When confronted by long time members about this he cried like a biotch to the owners who declared that "no backyard mechanics would be allowed to dare to question a paid advertiser". Several people got banned from there, I left on my own as I could see there was no integrety and if lies were allowed to be perpetuated then I wasn't wasting my time.

Here's what was said by Speedwake:
This thread has been closed and a number of merit-less posts made in an attempt to discredit and cast doubt on a highly qualified and well respected engine builder by a few garage mechanics with limited experience have been deleted.
If you have a serious legitimate question I fully support you when you ask them in a dignified and professional manner but when a member (a non supporter at that) whose true identity and motives are unknown, calls a supporting member and respected advertiser's post a bunch of BS, I draw the line.
This type of behavior will not be tolerated and if any of the offending parties try it again, you will be immediately banned.
Mike posted: 540 CI N/A / 740 hp
Just finished this nice 540, ended up with some great power too. Hyd roller cam 92 oct pump gas.
Kidnova posted: Wow.... that's about 1.37 hp per CI.....
Scott/CFM posted :
350cid = 479.50
454cid = 621.98
502cid = 687.74
I thought it was a difficult read back then. Now it is a joke!

If fraud is indeed proved then I wonder if Jeff would reconsider
the bans?

there have been SEVERAL threads between OSO and Speedwake where some pretty outrageous claims have been made and things have gotten questioned! If I remember there was SEVERAL people questioning Roccard on that thread, I thought CFM got banned over it but I see he still shows up in the link. I was close in my summary of what Speedwake said though. There was a thread and I'm not sure if it was that one where the outrageous correction factor came up, it's hard to believe that these "professional" engine builders don't realize that a every day joe can QUICKLY see what there ACTUAL observed hp is IF they post bsfc/lb per hr data. They make it a point to show us CORRECTED hp but NOT ACTUAL hp or the correction factor. It is simple:EXAMPLE- on a dyno sheet a motor is claimed to make 1000 hp , the lbs per hour fuel is 450, the BSFC is .55, you divide 450 by .55 comes out to 818 ACTUAL hp.
You now divide the CLAIMED hp with the ACTUAL hp:
1000 divided by 818= 1.22% correction factor, a correction factor that most shops would NEVER have unless dynoing at 10,000 feet!!! For people that STILL don't really understand what were saying when we say a 1.22% correction factor is outrageous, what it means is a 818 hp motor MAGICALLY gains 182 hp on PAPER that you don't really have!!!!!
Now I go a step further-I find the zip code for said engine builder, I then go on Weather Underground weather history for THAT zip code and the TIME shown on the dyno sheet. Find the corrected seal level baro, ambient air temp, dew point, average elevation and humidity. Convert the corrected sea level baro to station pressure to acount for location altitude, punch the data into a dyno calculator and find the ACTUAL correction factor that they SHOULD have used. Now I do know that it COULD be hotter in the dyno room BUT most dyno's plumb in a large volume of outside air directly onto the motor so numbers should be pretty close. If someones correction factor calculates to 25% (from dyno sheet) and the actual data calculates to 2.5% you know it is no mistake, a percent or 2 off, I could understand but 20%, no friggin way!! When Roccard was cornered over this at one point in a thread he responded with dyno's are real complicated and all have correction factors that people don't understand, blah, blah blah, when prodded/confronted FURTHER with actually data he responded that HIS dyno sucks hot air directly out of the attic, not outside so his intake air temp is really high along with his correction factor

This isn't something that I have singled Roccard out for either, I run the numbers on EVERY dyno sheet I see and quite often there is some
going onI got into this also with ANOTHER well known "engine builder" somewhere between Georgia and Kentucky over a 598 (with a 18+% correction factor) that he was proudly showing the dyno sheet on, HIS answer was that "the data on the sheet is wrong" (except the corrected hp numbers of course) now whenever he post a dyno sheet not only does it NOT show actual hp or correction factor used, he also edits off the bsfc and lbs per hr. If the numbers are LEGIT no "professional" engine builder should have any reason to hide the REAL data and such although it does give his ball washers a reason to tell him what a great guy he is and give him kudos etc, etc,
Smitty
