When I make an offer on an out of town boat they are always pending a survey and sea trial before settlement . When looking for a survey guy , I always ask that a mechanical survey be done as well . There have been times that I had to get a mechanic involved to make the additional tests that a boat surveyor wouldn't or couldn't do . Things like checking the drives and engine compression are a must . To me it's like a form of insurance , also gives me peace of mind when getting a third party opinion .
