Ok here is the add from the swap shop.

2 330hp 454's
________________________________________
I have 2 454 engines. One is complete and running, the match to it injested some water and needs rebuild. I have all the parts for the one that needs rebuild. These are the 330hp low hour motors. I purchased rebuilt engines that have maybe 100hours on them but got water in one because of bad exhaust manifolds. Make me an offer. I need them gone.

I'm not sure how you feel you where screwed? The add clearly states that the engine ingested water and needs a rebuild. I would expect to see a few bent pushrods, matbe a cracked piston and maybe even a bent rod or two depending on how hard it was running when it locked up so these questions should have been asked before purchase. Chances are he didn't know the block was cracked unless he tore the engines down to inspect. So the way it looks is that you knew you had to rebuild that engine and at most are out the costs of the sleeve. The rest of the machine work and parts like gaskets, bearings etc you would haave spent anyway during the rebuild. IMO

ok... first, most people reading this arent listening, neither is the op.

one motor was drop in ready to run(this is the one with the damaged #8 cylinder)
the other motor was hydro'd and needs rebuilt.......

HOW MUCH DID YOU PAY FOR THE RUNNING READY TO GO ENGINE?

It’s all good, I don’t think anyone actually reeds all of the comments before putting in there opinions on forums and I know that I am guilty at times.

I usually don’t like to talk cash but shipped to my location I have 1600 invested into two engines BOTH needing repaired.

Jeff, I do understand what you are saying and partially agree but to me getting what you pad for means that you ended up with the product that was advertised and you paid for no matter what the price was.

I think this one was more of a too good to be true situation.

As I had said earlier this was a large lesson learned. Moving on is not only the next move but the only move.

fireboatpilot 10-10-2012 01:13 PM

Sorry, I did mis read the post stating that it was the running engine that had the problem. Still, for what you paid I think that it could be alot worse. it might still be worth it to see if the seller will work with you, but I wouldn't count on it. Out him anyway and have him explain it to us.

$1600 for two complete BBC marine engines freight included??? and we're surprised that there's a problem? and you also got parts along with that deal??? I can't really see what you're complaining about? sounds like they were sold off as cores at that price and why you wouldn't have at least gone thru them is beyond my comprehension... sorry don't mean to be a ball buster but the shipping was likely $500. so I think for a $Gnote ya did well... try to buy all that sh*t separately and see how much it costs, I'm sure your opinion will change in a hurry

While I do feel for you, 1600 is pretty cheap. As I said you bought a matched set, one had already failed...how long before the other fails? 1600 shipped is dirt cheap, you should still be happy

Do you buy then dressed or just engines? Seems to me you could sell all the accessories on each engine and come out on top.

For what you have invested you can rebuild, have a fresh engine and still be ahead IMO. Plus after going through them you will know what you have top to bottom
