PWC's are so affordable that any idiot can buy one.

They are also too easy to drive compared to regular boats.

I truly believe that the vast majority of people on PWC's have no concept of how a regular boat handles. they think that they handle just as quick and nimble as their ski does.

PWC's were ok when they had 60HP or less, these new ones are just down right retarded and you should need a special license to drive one (like motorcycles).

Vette, the sad part is many people that buy a boat have no idea how to operate them either! Like someone said earlier, the guy that is pulling their kids on a tube and stops right in a narrow portion of the main channel - what the hell is he thinking? It really is amazing that more people aren't hurt and killed each year.

Growing up on the rivers here, Ive seen it all. Gotta agree that the majority of jetski owners that cause problems are simply not paying attention to their surroundings. Boaters are to blame too. Cant tell you how many times my docks have been waked, by a planing boat, when the river is about a half mile wide. Or that person pulling a skiier or tuber keeps swerving back and forth through the channel, which is fine if nobody else is around. But when you have boats approaching or coming from behind to pass, take a break in the thrill ride, go straight, let the boat pass, then swerve on.

Common sense is not so common anymore!

There will always be morons no matter what hobby you are into, or how much money they have into it, but the money factor sure seems to cut down on the moron factor quite a bit... there are probably

1 moron out of 1000 people that have $100k into their boat
1 moron out of 100 people that have $25k into their boat
1 moron out of 10 people that have $2k into their 'craft'

When I was a kid, if you had little money and experience it bought you a boat that handled like crap and was slow. Now if you have little money you can buy yourself a little floating rocket ship. It's just a bad combination.

How about being in the middle of a bay during the Emerald Coast Poker Run following my buddy in his boat about 200 yards back all alone, no other boats off to his starboard. We were moving at about 45mph and out of nowhere 1 guy shows up on a jet ski in a trance wanting to jump my buddy's wake. He never sees me behind him, he was totally focused on the wake, I started to slow down and make several small evasive manuvers to let him do his thing, but each time I slow down and move he seems to do the same thing until I back off the throttles and swerve as he does the same thing, finally he woke up and saw us and then panicked into our path. We just missed him and he took off. We were not drinking and I could just see the headlines, 42" Cigarette type boat, going too fast for conditions runs over innocent jet skier.

It is not limited to jetskiers. We were tied up to the dock at our marina, loading up to head out and a knuckle head in a brand new ski boat with a load of teens decides that he is facing the wrong way to tie up and pulls a full power donut next to us to show off for the kids and spin the boat around and his wake smashes our boat off the dock and then gets pissed at me because I call him a dumbazz in front of the teenagers and not so calmly explain to him that he is responsible for his wake and if there is any damage to my boat he will be paying for it. No one takes responsibility for their actions any more.
