Three guys probably in their early twenties walked into the marina I work at last weekend. "You guys rent Jet Skis?" one of them asks. "Nope, we stopped doing that about 8 years ago" I reply. "Why not?" they ask. "For some reason they attract idiots faster than we could winch them up (sunken) from the bottom of the lake." I reply. By the look on his face, I could tell he knew exactly what I was talking about.

I can't believe the amount of BOATERS I run across that don't know the "rules of the road" There are rules on the water, just because your an A$$hole with money does not mean the rules don't apply to you. I think a boating safety coarse should be mandatory for boat and jet ski owners.
Where I live (New York State), taking and passing a Safe Boating Course is required for all boat owners and the law has been in place for about 4 years now. I've been boating for over 50 years and had to take it myself. Want my assessment of its effectiveness? About zero. I'm sorry, but way too many folks who drive jet skis apparently left their brains in a jar someplace.

Omg you ahould live in Erie. There is a rental place in the bay that rents jet skis to everyone and I mean everyone. If you haves passed the boaters safety course required by law you can watch a ten minute video and be out I always stay far away

I thought this was the law in NY

You must hold a safety certificate if:
•You operate a personal watercraft and are at least 14 years of age. Until 2009 operators age 10-13 can still operate with restrictions. Click on Navigation Law updates for complete information.
•You wish to operate a motorboat (other than a personal watercraft) and you are at least 10 years old and less than 18 years old.
•If you are less than 10 years old you may operate a motorboat (non-PWC) only if someone over 18 is on board with you. Anyone may operate a personal watercraft if someone at least 18 years old is riding on the craft and they hold a safety certificate

It's not the jetskis here, it's the boaters. No respect for their wakes and they think (?) nothing of passing right by you within 20-30 feet when there is miles and miles of water on either side. What's with that? Also notice how many other "regular" boaters have to pass a performance boat even when you are cruising along at 40+.

I mentioned it before and I think it still holds true

The BEST part of Jet Ski's? they are cheap [relatively]
The WORST part of Jet Ski's? They are cheap!

My boat sure isn't anything special, especially compared to some of the gazzillion dollar bling floating [no pun intended] around here, but, I am pretty damn selective about who I let take the helm, as for "lending" it to someone to go rip around for an hour? Not likely!

However, a $1000 Jet Ski? In a different situation I would probably be more inclined to be less restrictive about who used it, or borrowed it. I also think since they are so small and easily trailerable that you have a lot of "transient" PWC'ers that aren't local, so, like the old expression goes "you dont pee where YOU play" Some of these guys have no problem being "A Holes" on some "buddy/Girlfriends" place whereas if they where at "home' they might be a little more considerate, Just my thoughts!

I agree!!! I had one hot shot try to pull some fancy sheet on me in a marina (not to be named) what he wasn't expecting was for me to get pissed off!!! I trottled in and pinned him and his seadoo up against the seawall and ripped him a new orifice in front of 20 or so boaters... lets just say that the standing "O" that I received said it all!! and the skid mark left in the hot shots shorts I'm sure is still there today!! lmfao!
"why settle for scared, when you can be scared sh*tless!!"
