Jet Ski Jerks
well Just got back from going up to Cedar Point for dinner with my wife and almost nailed my first Jet skier because the jerk was showing off for his girl friend and not looking where he was going... I had to swerve the boat to get away from him ...... N.G.M. F.
I guess we will have to start making little stickers like they had in world war II for jap air planes downed!!!Truely brain dead Azz holes.. Jim |

A number of years a go, I was curising at about 45 MPH on Lake Ontario when a jet ski came up from behind me in my blind spot, passed me about 20 feet off my starboard side, then spun the ski about 50 feet in front of me. I had to swerve hard to miss him. I immediately wound around and stopped beside him fuming. Before I cound get a word out, he started yelling at me for almost hitting him. Once his profanity laced rant was finished, I announced that I had his registration numbers already called in to the Sheriff, I was bigger and faster than him, and I wouldn't miss the next time. "Maybe you'd like to leave before I run you over a few dozen times by mistake?" I suggested. Boy, did he leave in a hurry.

The 2 stroke ones are the worse, its like having a freakin' mosquito buzzing in your ear, the 4 strokes AT LEAST are quieter. I also think someone should advise these dip$hits that there 70 MPH Jet Ski's [usually] DONT have brakes or navigation lights!
I boat in the 1000 Islands area, and have seen these fools literally a FOOT away from the lake freighters that use the St Lawrence, sometimes WELL after dusk! These things are 750+ feet long and take a mile or more to turn and even longer to stop. What do you think is gonna happen if you dump your Sea Doo a foot away from one of these things????? I actually considered buying a pair of 4 stroke Sea Doos a few years ago, and one of the things that detered me was the "stigma" that they seem to have by most boaters Michael |

Man, ANYBODY who has the skill [and pockets] to cruise a 60ft Hatteras is OK in my book! LOL, Jet Ski's or not!
Its a shame, really, I looked at getting a pair since we have a cottage on a bay and its sometimes a pain to go to the neighbours places in a "real" boat, and my fat arse in a paddleboat is something NOBODY wants to see! so, I figured Jet Ski's would be a good idea, I talked to a few people who told me they are kinda like snowmobiles or 4 wheelers, you NEED two for them to be any fun. I also thought they would be a crapload cheaper on fuel to use for watersports, but, after talking to other boaters I just couldn't get past the stigma, although, if you are looking to unload those 2 collecting dust in your garage let me know! LOL I also noticed it wasnt JUST performance boaters that hated them, bass fishermen, commercial captains, Hell, even sailboats [not sure if they are rainbow colored or not! ha ha] hated them. I think they remind people of the "organ donors" on sport bikes who rip up and down the highways at 170MPH weaving in and out of traffic, usuallly during long weekend rush hour. Michael |
We call them Lake Lice.
|
Tere was a thread that got poofed the other day about one hitting a cat.

It's amazing that more people don't die on these things. I don't know what it is about these morons that makes them think that they own the lake, or what kind of stones they have (or lack of brains) that makes them feel comfortable next to something that is literally 10X's their size less than 3 - 4 feet away.
Also, they think they're some sort of funeral procession that can't be broken when they travel in a line, and they have no idea what the "rules of the road" are. I almost smoked one last weekend that was following a dipshyt in a beat up 24' SeaRay. There were three of them in line, coming from my port, of course, wouldn't alter their course, wouldn't slow down or speed up, and the 50 yard trail of nonsense they had strung out over the lake was right in my way. I wish cops would be more diligent about handing out reckless boating tickets to them, and the judges should force them to take a boaters safety course. |
I think a lot of the problem is the face that unless you buy a "brand new" one they are pretty cheap, which means ANY Yahoo can afford one, plus, if they got 'nothing" into them they dont care about what happens to them, and they just run the crap out of them.
My Boat may be a POS compared to the high dollar stuff on this board, but, its mine and I take care of it, and it cost a lot of money [to a "regular" guy like me] So, I value it, if I had bought it used off some local website or marina for a couple of grand I might not be as meticulous.......... I also think someone should explain to these MORONS what a "NO WAKE" zone means! |
Most of the ski's in our area are not a problem although we do a lot of river running so there is not the typical round and round water traffic.
Like anything, there will always be the few that do not pay attention or run them carelessly. I just wish the big cruisers would learn to obey slow no wake zones :) |
Its not the ski, its the operators. I bought one a few years ago to play on when the lake kicks up to rough to boat. Its a freakin BLAST to play in 4&5 footers, and usually no boats are out except for the coasties. The only problem is trying to move the next day because I'm gettin old and fat:party-smiley-004:
|
Most of the operators are just so dam disrespectable to everyone around them. Besides trying to avoid the water bugs when running they annoy the Chit out of ya when they run 20' from you when your anchored or tied up at a restaurant dock.
|
I got flipped the bird by one last weekend after I had to come off of plane while avoiding a collision with him. I am currently shopping for the loudest air horn I can possibly buy. Anyone has ideas let me know what is best. The next time this happens I want to blast em with my horn when I am still 60yds from them..
|
I had to shut it down twice last weekend to avoid a accident with them. I dont think half the people riding them have any experience to operate a water vessel or any respect to other boaters.
|
If they're close enough to hit with a musky lure...
:drink: |
My father has been hit by jet skis on two seperate occasions. Once when he was under way and the second while he was beached. If I remember correctly they were both being driven by women.
|
I use my horn a lot. It's hard to believe that most (not all) operators have their head so far up their azz that they don't notice a 5000 lb power boat comming up on them and continue to zig, zag and change direction as if they were havin a seizure while driving. Why is it so F'n hard to simply pay attention to your surroundings??? :waffen093:
|
It does not matter if you have headers ,horns or a 9000 lb. boat, they still dont hear or see you and if you are unlucky enough to hit one of them -----Its law suit time defending yourself against some P.O.S. who has nothing and purchased some piece of crap jet ski that he could barley afford !!Even if you are lucky enough to win in court look at all the problems these jerks cause..

The new's reported almost all the arrests made this past weekends Aquapalooza were people on jet skis.
They would ignore the no wake zone and whne stopped were arrested for BUI.. So sometimes these morons do pay.. |

We have had so many close calls. Is it legal to shoot them with the kids paintball gun? Then we would all be able to tell which ones to watch out for. More paint spots = bigger dumb azz. Just an idea.

They have become a major problem in our area as far as I am concerned. I was almost hit twice just last weekend. The wake jumping is the cause of most of the problem as they don't pay attention to the fact other boats might be passing the larger cruisers.
A couple years ago, there was a guy jumiping wakes behind a 50 foot Sea Ray. He did not realize the Cruiswer was slowing to a stop and ended up running into the back of the Sea Ray. Luckily, he was the only one injured but it could have been worse. Seems like every year that passes there are more and more of these things on the water. The main problem is that they are more often than not "community" vehicles...meaning, normally the person that owns them is not opperating them, they just let their friends play with them so there is no expectation of responsibility. |

If one of them crashed into the back of my 50ft Sea Ray, well, you can rest assured that if the accident DIDN'T kill him, I would! Michael |

Just curious where your friend mounted the horns.....they are huge .....I would love to have them on my boat, but not be visible...... Between the jet ski's and the guys who rent those tiny boats with an outboard and feel the need to drift/fish in narrow high traffic channels........I would get some use out of them for sure.....

We nearly had one center-punch our 35 Fountain while we were anchored on the lake. He came past us, did a 360 spin out and punched it. Unfortunately he was pointed right at our boat when he punched it. In addition to me yelling a few choice words, he got hit with a good handful of unnecessary boat items that were within my reach! For that matter, he was almost within my reach, too!

Had to chop the throttle three this past Saturday on a local river. Once for a Wave Runner, the other for some 8' boat with an outboard and for a ski boat with everyone looking backwards!!!! Seems the smaller they are dumber they get.
Going back to the ramp there were two Wave Runners going the other direction, each on both sides of the river. So I figured they were going to let me split them (NOT that this is correct!). Well the first one passed off our right and the one to the left decided to also pass to our right! At the last minute!!!!! It was clear neither one of them knew what they were doing. It was like amateur day on the river and everyone's head were up their a$$es!! This was one day I could not wait to get off the water!:angry-smiley-038: |

Was just watching the 6:00pm news earlier this evening ... 2 women riding PWC's on the Ohio River in downtown Cincinnati, colided. News said one turned in front of the other and the other one hit her. One of the 2 women died and not much mentioned about the other one. Someone in a pontoon boat pulled her from the river and started doing CPR, but she died. Not a good day on the river for anyone. We were just on the river yesterday. The river is in pretty good shape ... semi-clean and not much debri. From some of the dumbazz chit we see on the local lakes and river every weekend, I'm suprised there are not more fatalities or accidents involving PWCs'. Just to be clear, though, I'm not trying to downplay today's tragic news - that young woman (they said early twenties) was someone's daughter.
|
I owned 2 standups before I pulled my head out & bought a boat. I grew up boating & still did when I owned skis, but I gotta tell ya, any jackazz can get on a waverunner.
I have a friend paralized from a waverunner to waverunner accident. I watched another crash from another boat as my buddies boat was totalled by a teenager on a waverunner, 1/4 mile out of the rental dock @ Lake Powell. At least the standups require some balance & skill & aren't available for rent in most cases. I always kept my distance & wits. Training/license should be required of all watercraft riders, boats & especially waverunners. Look at all the idiots on the highways, and those people at least had to pass a drivers test. |
IN CT you need a water craft license to operate one, a boating liscense is different
You can get a combined also which is what I have. I was a jet skier for years and was VERY responsible always watched behind me before turning looked 360 dgrees before jumping any wakes etc. I see guys on water craft who cant drive and dont look around and I also see exactly the same thing with boaters. Theres so much stupidity at the boat launch from either side it astonishes me. |
These people simply do not know the rules on the water, plain and simple. I'm sure the majority beleive that you're supposed to yield to them, no matter what the circumstances.
I am the first year (birthdate) required to have a boating license here in Ohio and believe that should hold true for any operator of a vessel out on the water. Although this doesn't guarantee that it would fix the problem, at least it would deter a few boneheads from hopping on one of these things. I was out on the water with about 8 people on my boat last Sunday. A few got too close. It makes me so nervous when I see them out in the distance in Sandusky Bay up ahead of me. I usually go out of my way just to put a few hundred feet in between us. It's like you're not only being responsible for your cargo, but also them. Aggrevating..... |

had one a hole lady yesterday jumping the wake of a cruiser in the river channel!!! she didn't even know i was coming.. I slowed way down just about to come off plane and she makes a 90 to make another jump and I notice there is a kid on the back too:eek: couldn't be 6 or 7 the cruiser knew them and slowed down and waved them in. why don't they pay more attention???
|
train horn sounds good. I keep an airhorn in reach. Blast it while I am approaching...at least it gets there heads to turn.
