More wood, less wood I don't know but whatever Checkmate does they need to keep it that way. It is rare to see stress cracks in a Checkmate. If it does it was abused, not taken care of or heavly over powered and not reinforced.
I don't see them giving you any extra hardware, have you priced a new boat. The reason why Checkmate sold boats with less bling and goodies was to keep the price down. But their was nothing that was not avalible when you ordered one. And most of the time it was up to the dealer that ordered the boat what it got. Like the standared engine on a 28 foot Convincor is a 350. I have only seen one Convincor that was over 22 foot that had a 350 in it. Yet that was up to the dealer or a special order.
I think people need to read some of the older boat flyers before they comment on what Checkmate did not put on the boat they bought. Because I can make a list of stuff that I wish I had on my Convincor but I have to suck it up because I am not the one that bought it new.

I know exactly what they offered standard and as options in the past. And yes I've priced a new boat. Over the years I've owned seven Checkmates, and three of those I ordered new, 2 of them since Doug took voer. I also have alot of the old catalogs. I agree with you, in the past it seemed like the standard options list was pretty short, but now there are more things standard than there was before. Right now the I/O offshore boats come standard with dual lever controls, pop-up nav lights, pop-up cleats, anodized vents, 4-color gel, Upgrade gauges over Merc (Eddie Marine Elite Series)...all these things use to really add up.... Also they include McCleoud bolsters which is nice. Not a real big deal, but they do offer more things standard now.

Not sure what you mean here in the cabin lights or as you stated cockpit lights.

We even have a '78 18' Cobalt that has some lights right near the floor in the cockpit to help see inside the cockpit at night.

Ok I got you now I don't think I have seen cockpit lighting either yes a couple of lights mounted in the sides would be good.
