ENFORCER24 02-02-2009 08:15 AM

anyone know this boat or seller ?

i'm getting ready to pull the trigger on this boat , its in my budget and seems to be in average condition for its age
its on ebay , and the seller has 151 pos. , 24 of which are from sales , and at least half those are boat sales.
although it doesnt seem like he's into performance boats
but the price is right , and i wanna make sure no one has had a bad time with him.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...AQ:MOTORS:1123

as always , thanks for all the help in advance

Keytime 02-02-2009 12:58 PM

I had problems with the link. Not sure if anyone else is.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...5691&viewitem=

That boat has been on there a long time. That's all I know.

ENFORCER24 02-02-2009 01:06 PM

yea , it has been re-listed and re-listed for at least a year
its not the best selling color scheme , and interior is very dated , but if it runs and is not rotted out i would say its worth 10k
i was hoping in the last year that its been on ebay someone might have taken a look at it , 30k members here its a good chance

jeff1000man 02-02-2009 01:09 PM

Boat has ben for sale forever, but I have never seen it priced that low. Has to be a buy at 10K if it runs.

Good Luck.

ciaoderhead 02-02-2009 02:16 PM

Enforcer, sent you a PM

kreed 02-02-2009 05:12 PM

Sad to see your going with outboards...............

ENFORCER24 02-02-2009 05:41 PM

its a hard decision , but weighing all the pro's and cons , the only 3 cons are the roar of a 454 , which i love , the lack of bolt on HP upgrades , and the oil you either have to keep in the lube tank or mix with your gas
theres a list of pro's 3 times as long , first of which is a 70 mph boat that burns half the fuel of the same size twin 454 boat , that can troll into a beach with 18 inches of water , for 10k , i'm having a hard time finding reasons not to buy it

Sidewinder-Boats 02-02-2009 06:55 PM

You should have asked about that boat over on www.checkmate-boats.com we've been joking about taking up a collection and buying the boat, so we can burn it. We're just sick of seeing it on ebay. Its been on ebay forever, his price has finally come down to within reason, and it seems to be getting cleaner in the pictures. So he's been putting some work into it. Probably a great boat at 10,000 but a lousy boat at his original price, lol, its been so long I forgot what it was.
He is right it is a rare one, they've updated the design for it over the years.

This boat needs a home, if I had the cash, well I'd still try to get it for less, but thats me.

ENFORCER24 02-02-2009 07:17 PM

i have talked to him , and the price now includes the trailer @ 10k , this is all the play money i have at the moment , so its a good deal , and very likely gonna be purchased this coming weekend by myself.

Keytime 02-02-2009 07:19 PM

Heck, you should have taken up a collection from people who would have paid to get it off eBay! :D

Let us know how it turns out.

Fenderjack 02-02-2009 07:30 PM

That is the guy I bought my stinger off of. He is a pretty stand up guy, is flexible on his price. All in all his descriptions are pretty good. I would contact him on it, make the deal out side of ebay where you can wheel on price a lil bit.. :) In fact that boat is sitting in the same spot as the stinger I got off him. LOL Worst come to worse you show up there and don't like it, go back home..

if the boat is solid and motors check out you can't go wrong with that price. They are fun boats.....here's mine

Big Blocks Rule!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess for the money, IF the motors are ok, its a good deal. Considering the size of the boat and all. BUT!! Rebuilding outboards is more expensive than rebuilding a big block, and you have to pay someone to do it. Not to mention, theres two of them. Big blocks are so easy to build and repair. Just about anyone can do it. A friend of mine just had his 2 outboards freshened up. It cost him 6,000.00.....and he still wouldnt know what to do if one of them broke down on the water. His boating day would be over. Not to mention, the outboatds on that boat look pretty old!? To me, its hard going from 69' big block Camaro, to a mitsubishi eclipse!!!! Sorry to be such a downer, but I dont think your going to be happy, especially if it doesnt do 70 MPH. STICK WITH THE BIG BLOCK, PLEASE-PLEASE-PLEASE !!!!!LOL....Good luck with your new boat.:ernaehrung004:

ENFORCER24 02-03-2009 09:16 AM

i appriciate the constructive input , i have to dis-agree with non-user servicable parts , not nearly as big but i have torn down a 55hp chrysler 2 cyl , and a 4 cyl 125hp force almost excactly like the chrysler , i do agree the re-build kits are a lil more expensive , but as for getting stuck in the river and not knowing what to do , its a carberated 2 stroke engine , fuel-oil / compression / spark / cooling , all the same principals.
worse case scenario , i dont like it and sell it to someone on scream and fly , lol , they love the outboards

dont get me wrong , i really do appriciate the input , just dont agree with it

and another local has the identical boat , and confirms the performance potential if its running correct.

where do you boat Kreed , if your local i'd love to buy you a beer and discuss while rafted up in the potomac river :ernaehrung004:

kreed 02-03-2009 02:00 PM

Ok. Thats all good, I just dont want to see you spend your money on a potential "project" boat. The boat has been sitting for a while. Ive been following the sale of your old boat and the search for a new boat. Some life I have, right? But anyways, you seem like a nice ,honest guy and it would suck to have to sink MORE money into a newly purchased boat. If you find out later that the engines need rebuilds, that would really take the wind out of your sails !!!!!!!!!Anyways, I hope to hear from you in the future telling me Im wrong and the boat is awesome!!!!!!!! We boat on the CT. river, so if your ever close, let me know. Love to have a beer. Will continue to follow your saga.

P.s.- It will never sound like a big block! Those outboards burn oil, on purpose !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ciaoderhead 02-03-2009 06:06 PM

I'd hate to see you do it but at that price you could part that boat out and get your money out of it, might take awhile in this market but you should be safe. 2.4 200 power heads are easy to come by, blow one up, just pop on another. The 2.4's are pretty reliable anyway. do a leakdown test when you check it out. Yank the oil injection off and mix oil/gas and don't worry about the injection failing.

ENFORCER24 02-03-2009 06:25 PM

yea , i was looking around at CL and Ebay and it looks like a single 200hp black max sells for between 1000 and 2500 , so in the event that the worse happens and a rod goes shooting out the side , bounces off the prop of the other motor and cuts the lower unit off , i'm still only out 2 grand for a similar engine to hoist back on there. lol
as for what Kreed said , i gave up on the idea of buying a boat and not spending any other money afterwards years ago
as the spring progresses i'll be in the "wanted" forums for lotsa stuff , guages , props , 12 volt fridge for the cabin , shore power charger/inverter , air conditioning , stereo equipment , etc etc etc
this hobby is an expensive one , but with the biggest rewards in my opinion when your screaming past a cruiser boat and everyone on there boat secretly wants to be on yours :evilb:

Except when the steaks and burgers are ready to be served on the cruiser.

clamp that grill to my windshield frame and the burgers flip themselves as i'm bouncing in and out of the water , its a magic touch , and never without my ignition kill tether aslo connected to the propane shut off valve

i live life on the edge , but a few steps back from the edge , and holding the guard rail with both hands , and a bungee cord attached to a fat guy even further away from the edge

i sent a deposit on the boat , should be off e-bay in the next couple days , and be in my driveway within the next few weeks , as soon as i can get up there to inspect and pay for it

how much speed is added when you set the motors back 2 feet on a bracket ?
oh yea , any other pics of yours ? my mind is going 72mph with possable upgrades , i love anodized metal :)

raytart 02-05-2009 07:21 PM

What year are the motors. One motor is older than the other. Notice the colors of the decals. I had an 82 black max which I believe had the brown/tan colored decals. It does state that one motor was rebuilt not replaced. Just something you may want to ask the owner.

ENFORCER24 02-05-2009 08:14 PM

thanks Raytart , as long as both motors run strong and even i dont care if there both 78's . for the money i cant beat it.
if i decide to keep it for a while i'll probably just save 5 grand and upgrade to some newer injected powerheads and put em on a bracket , from what i hear 260hp per side gets you close to 80mph , cant beat that with a stick

kreed 02-06-2009 07:15 AM

Any quotes as to what it costs to make a 200 HP Blackmax into 260 HP ?

ENFORCER24 02-06-2009 07:22 AM

not yet , baby steps here , but nitrous systems are about 650 per engine , i'm sure that would get me there and more
thats a joke , dont believe in bottles on boats . cans only

PM me your e-mail and I'll send some more. Mine ran low 70's with the 200's on the bracket. At one point it had 2.4 240's with CLE's and a previous owner claimed 83mph. I've got 2.5 260 offshore EFI's now with sportmasters. It doesn't like the sportmasters. I need to change the engine height and put my other lowers with BOB's nose cones back on. Like to try some CLE's sometime.

kreed 02-06-2009 09:45 AM

I see the boat auction on ebay has ended. Congrats!!!!! When are you going to see the boat? Watch, now you'll find 10 boats you like in your price range!!!

ENFORCER24 02-08-2009 06:31 AM

usedpartsgod @ gmail . com , i think the brackets will probably be the first perf mod , if i get into the 70's w/o having to mod the engines i'll be smiling ear to ear.
what are CLE's ? i keep seeing that and dont know what it stands for.

Kreed , done deal on the boat , i had a friend inspect it before i even sent the deposit , bypassed the deposit and went straight to paying for the whole thing , i own it now

haftoo55 02-08-2009 09:21 AM

Glad it went to a good home. I taped that boat off years ago. If I remember correctly we used to put put a clear coat over the blue. Can't remember for sure like I said it was years ago. You can tell by sanding with 1200 or 1500 sand paper. If it is white color it is clear if it is blue then we didn't clear coat it. Or it could have been buffed off.

ENFORCER24 02-09-2009 10:55 AM

thanks Haftoo55 , all info is helpful

ciaoderhead 02-09-2009 11:05 AM

Did you pick it up this weekend?

ENFORCER24 02-10-2009 11:59 AM

No , made the deal , in the sales contract we both signed it has to be delivered to me on or before feb 24th , i'm counting the days now.

i own it tho , its mine mine all mine.
10,400 on the trailer , delivered 318 miles to me
paperwork was all in order , survey came back better then described , only very minor things , and no elevated moisture levels , and 121lbs of compression +/- 2 pounds on all 12 cylinders. cant ask for much more then that.

ciaoderhead 02-24-2009 03:18 PM

Did it show up yet?

jeff1000man 02-24-2009 03:20 PM

Can't wait to find out you made the deal of the century on that thing.

It was for sale forever, and now it sounds like it is probably turn key.

Congrats and have fun.

ENFORCER24 02-26-2009 12:18 PM

they guy keeps throwing excuses my way , its starting to piss me off
there believable excuses but from what he's telling me it will be to me tomorow or saturday at the latest.
so the ticked off ride to NY will wait till next week if he doesnt post

ENFORCER24 03-01-2009 10:41 AM

its in my driveway

1 Attachment(s)
yup its finally in my driveway
i am very happy with mechanicals , and structural
the motors both fired up quickly w/o use of chokes
and the transom and bulkheads are very solid
i could only run the motors for a few seconds each since i dont have the correct flushing attachment yet
although i dont care what happens to the impellors as they will both be new here in the next month
the interior is alot more beat then i expected , its gonna get a top to bottom re-fab inside the cabin , but that can be a work in progress , the main thing is the motors and structure.

thanks for all the input guys , its always a huge help having people to ask Q's and get feedback from
Attachment 377528

i know its a crappy cell phone pic , but gets the job done

kreed 03-02-2009 12:18 PM

Good luck with it. Its a nice size boat for the money. I had a 1990 28' Maxxum with 2 small blocks and Bravo drives. Nice riding boat. It looked similar to your boat.

bbpowersports 03-25-2009 02:59 PM

Glad to see it showed up... I did see that on ebay for about 10k more then u paid..
