How fast do you guys run?
 

I've seen the 100mph club thread.
I've read the who has what thread.


Now I want to see how fast fellow checkmate-ers run. What kind of speeds can you guys get in your Checkmate's?

Haven't run with the mods yet but did about 61-ish with stock 7.4L in a 251 hull last year.

Mine is powered by a mostly stock ( except for Gil Exhaust ) 454 magnum. I get about 67 g.p.s. 72 on the speedo.

229 Maxxum 454, with some mods,heads with rollers, forged pistons, intake, Holley, Mallory ign, cam etc. runs low 70's with a 4 blade 24 Hydro. Decent speed with great reliability.

270 convincor 500hp efi 5300 rpms 74mph this is with a 25 pitch hydromotive 4 blade.

dlbCheckmate, did you ever venture out on PawPaw Lake last season? Noticed you are from St. Joe.

2001 convincor 270 w/ 500hp, running about 72mph using 27p mirage 3 blade. Still testing the right prop.Any suggestions?Boat has 18 hrs.

There has been a prop thread floating around, don't know if you've read it, but most Check owners have found a 4-blade hydromotive works like a champ.

I am thinking of switching from my 4 blade Bravo 1 to a 4 blade Hydromotive. I have read a few posts here on how well Checkmates' like that wheel. Have any of you guys done this switch? Who has the best deal on Hydromotives these days?

Changed Carb to 850cfm AED last Sunday ran 73.4 gps at 5250
and still pulling hard with 24 hydro.I hope try a 26 hydro this weekend!:)

thanks gameover i'll call hydromotive today, i talked to them a while ago and todd overthere suggested a 4blade 15x27p lab finished prop. Just needed more info from check owners.Not many of these great boats here..toooooo many baja's!!!!

did not work on my boat.rpms were there but the boat was
sluggish all the way up the rpm range.ran exactly the same as my bravo one 4 blade on the top,why run the same mph but take a lot longer to get there,tried 2 different sizes,took them off and sold them.just my .02.------joe

hirschy; their is no way you can pull a 27 pitch 4 blade! unless you have 550 hp or better! talk to tom at hydromotive, he made me a 25 pitch 4 blade! i turn it 5300 rpms with a 500hp efi motor.i have the same hull as you> BILL

thanks bill, i'll talk with tom soon, we came to the conclusion a 27 4 blade labbed would get me to 5150 rpm which is the ideal rpm for my 500hp, obviously i need some more info.My boat is with my mechanic to do some warranty work , looking at installing whipple sc says he'll give me a great deal. anyone install whipple? How much should i expect to pay including new carb and installed? hirschy

broke a blade on the spinnelli,porosity in the weld,
mirage plus does not like trim on my boat,tried 6 props
over 2 years,mercruiser bravo 1 works on my boat-----joe

Really, a Bravo1? Haven't had any qualms with the hydo prop but I might just try to test a bravo.

hirshy; call knuckle marine about superchargeing,they quoted me 7300 to pro- charge my 500hpefi motor.the whipple is a little more, not sure how much more!they do a lot of performance stuff on checkmates and other models.here is their web site address kunkels marine.com they have a excellent repatation. bill:) :)

thanks again Bill, I chose whipple because procharger is hard to dial in with the carb application. I was quoted 5500.00 for new B&M blower installed, says will ad 150hp with mild boost (5-6lbs). Waiting for whipple quote, anyone have any comparisons?thanks for all the info... Mark

hirshy, i have a friend with a 280zt with 500hp carbed and knuckles installed pro- charger on it. it runs 87 mph gps with 5 lbs of boost. you are correct about problems dialing in carburated motor. this same boat ran 9 lbs boost at first, went 93mph, but burnt some valves, so they backed the boost down and seems to have solved the problem.also they took out the jets in the secondarys of the carb. i had never heard of takeing them totaly out, but it seems to work in this setup.. good luck and let everyone know what your results are. Gameover..... I live about 1/2 mile from the DER launch in Benton Harbor. I usally just boat in the big lake but I have a friend that runs an Allison on Paw Paw. I may just get over there yet. My 251 is Red and Black. How bout you?

Which four blade Hydromotive Prop? There are several offered on their website should I call and ask them I have a 2000 stilleto with 7.4L MPI....I plan to add a pro charger or whipple system so would I wait until I do that..I'm running 68 with a Mirage Merc Prop

Got some new guys on here...so i thought i would let you guys know how my Convincor 300 runs....single 502MPI w/ Stage II Pro Charger 6 pounds boost......80 GPS.. Kunkel's set it up also .......It's for sale too, but i think i have it sold.

This is my first time on, so I hope I'm doing it right. I have a 280 Convincor with twin 454 mags. I was running 78 last year. I'm cramming Whipples in. It's a very tight fit with some deck and seat back mods. I plan to try and start it soon, I hope. I was planning to put 28 pitch 4 blades on to start. I'm not sure if I will use Hydromotive or Mercs. I'm boat out of South Haven, MI. I hope to see some of you this year.

dlbCheckmate my ship is white with a red stripe ending in a zig-zag. Should try out PawPaw at least once. Busy on the weekends but if you get a weekday there are a few fast v-hulls that test out there equipment before hitting L.Mich.

Seems as if there are quite a few checkmate owner on Lake Michigan, can't wait to meet you guys this summer.

I'm running a 30' Convincor with a twin turbo 572 making about 1300hp. Using a dry-sump #6 with a super cyborg tranny. Boat will run in the triple digits. Currently using a 28 4 blade or a 27 3 blade with a 1.24:1 gear ratio. Tranny is mounted in an extension box so motor is mounted in a stock bravo location.

Looks like you get the oscar for the fastest Checkmate on O.S.O. Do you have any pictures of the motors you can post??? I would love to see the engineering needed to do all the work with twin turbos. How did it all fit?

MY 2001 ZT240 WITH THE 496HO AND 25 MIRAGE PLUS RAN 73 ON GPS LAST YEAR. SPEED-O- WAS SHOWING 82 (I WISH).
ONLY HAVE 37 HOURS SO FAR AND HEARD THE CPU HAS A REV LIMIT TABLE (AZ SPEED & MARINE) PROGRAM FOR BRAEK-IN BUT THEY DID NOT SAY FOR HOW LONG. IT NOW PULLS HARD UP TO 4800rpms THEN NOTHING MORE. I'M WAITING FOR THE 40 HOUR MARK TO SEE IF ANYTHING CHANGES.
ANY OF YOU BOAT AROUND HARDY DAM ON THE MUSKEGON RIVER ?

Hey, pretty new to the board, i think this will be my third post. I've got a 25 convincor, runs 75-76 any day, has ben clocked at 77.2 mph, FASSSTTTT for a 500hp. The boat has twin throttle set up, All Gaffrig Gauges on both driver and throttle side, full hydrolic steering,compcom communication for 3 peole, mercury 280 k-planes, motor is fresh from Innovation marine, has 5 fresh water hours on it. Great for Poker runs. cd changer, head in cabin,,,,,Oh yeah,,,,,,,,,did i mention i was for sale?
Sorry to be running a little ad here, but they are good boats,just don't have time for this one. the boat has been sitting in my company warehouse for almost 2 years, its too nice to sit!! The factory 2 race boat keeps us busy enough. if anyone boats ner the Chain o Lakes, im sure they've seen it,,,,,,,its an AWESOME boat. ,,,,,,,,,but so are all Checks.

My 92 Persuader 219 runs 62 mph on a new Magellan Meridian Gold GPS. Oddly, the speedo is exactly on the money! :eek

4850 rpm with unknown 22" round ear prop. Only marking is M-22 cast into the belled hub. Tried 23" Mirage Plus but bowlift was lacking and holeshot sucked. 63 mph @ 4600 rpm though. And a Merc 23" chopper that was worse: 57 mph @ 4900 rpm.

Going to pop some 1.6 rockers in and dial in the Q-jet and timing some more and see what happens.

Love my boat. Sooo responsive to trim, not like the Baja's. I run even with a 2001 7.4 310 hp Hammer with my small block. :D

We run a 229 with a big block 450hp. You may want to try a 22 Hydromotive I run 24 Hydro. The 4 blade made the boat much more stable at speeds over 70. I lost a couple MPH top end from the 23 Mirage but it's much easier to run at top end now. I had a bad chine walk problem with the Mirage, scary. Your 219 is a nice looking boat Checkmates sure age well. I'll put mine up against any boat 10 years younger.

2002 Pulse 210 w/ Mercury 225 efi 24" Trophy Plus 4 Blade. 73.5 mph GPS and 77 on the Speedo at 5800 rpm.

hi guys,i'm new here,but not to checkmate,i have a 97 253,just bought a new 502/415 crate engine,850 holley,running a 23 pitch bravo 1,had it cupped and polished,balanced,anyone know what speed to expect,

253... What power and how fast did it go before?
