Default Two times in a row!!

That's right the fastest V1S1 - boat. Two years in a row!
67mph last year. 70mph this year. What a party if any of you guy's have the chance to go to the shootout, go.
This time I had great competition. Howard (that was the guys name) had a 25 Nordic Rage fast boat but was a little flat. But that was why he was so fast. My 251 had rougher water to run in. But we will get him next year. In the flatter stuff. My GPS said 71.2 and they said radar picked me up at 69 on Sat. But on Sun. I saw 70.8 on the GPS and they gave me 70 so we tied for the class. But still very happy.

What size motor are you running, a 502? I was wondering who won that class.

Dlb and mpally
We normally run in Grand Haven, in Lake Michigan
I have a 454 that has been freshend up by Valako Race Heads. It's still looks Stock from the outside. The only thing that has changed (outside) is that crossover kit for the cooling. Inside the thing is all new with good guy stuff in it.

70 with a 454? Wow that is impressive. How many hp are you putting out?

The motor was 365hp. mag. Now after the freshen-up job at the dino shop we ran the motor just the way it is in the boat. The stock carb and the stock exhaust. It ran at 440hp @ 5500 rmps.
But I tell you, I make the boat run on the top end it takes a long time to get their. The stock exhaust is killing the top end. Mid range is great. Pulls very hard. The new prop is the best thing I bought. A labbed 25 3-blade Mirage. I got 2 mph out of the prop alone. The cheapest 2 mph that I bought.

Congratluations!!
However, I think you are cheating the system with your engine upgrades. You should be running VIFI that was won by Gordo this year at 76 mph. Merc. stock engines do not get up to 440 hp
I kick myself for not running this year. I have a 240 Baja with a stock 502 Mag that will run 70 with two people aboard. Looks like Howard with the Nordic was the overall winner.

Hey KC
I think that you are wrong. Howard's Nordic has the new 496 HO Motor and it does have 425 hp. And it's a drag race do you know anyone that doesn't look for the upper hand at that. Plus my motor still looks stock and that is what the judges are looking. Their is a class for your boat it is called V1M1 and no one was in that class this year at all. Your buddy Gordo has a hp 500 motor and as you already know they have their own class as well V1F1. What is a Baja guy doing in the checkmate area anyway.

Hey ATU....
Open discussion here. Obviously the 496HO is still a "stock" production engine with no mods puts it in the "V1S1" class. Also, as I said, Merc. "stock" engines do not get up to 440hp. As you said, the 496HO is rated at 425hp. MY boat with the stock 502 Mag would also be in the V1S1 class, stock 502 Mag (carb) is 385 hp. However, you are correct. If you read the class descriptions (see below) YOU should actually be in V1M1 and not V1F1 as I stated before. This is the same trouble that Budweiser got into last year. I understand your efforts to "play down" a class to have a better chance of winning, but it's at someone else's expense. Again, looks like Howard's Nordic was the overall winner of V1S1.

As far as being in the Checkmate area, I generally search on all recent posts.

From lakeshootout.com

ENGINE CLASSIFICATIONS

S - STOCK ENGINES (ANY PRODUCTION ENGINES WITHOUT MODIFICATION, 500 HP ENGINE ARE NOT STOCK)
F - FOR MODIFIED FACTORY ENGINES (IE: 500HP)
M - CUSTOM BUILT MODIFIED ENGINES WITHOUT POWER ADDED FEATURES
P - POWER ADDED FEATERES (IE: BLOWERS, TURBOS, NITROS TURBINES, ECT)

Also, the race results indicate that V1M1 was won this year by Jim Casey at 75mph. Perhaps a carry-over from last year?

Class V1M1 (?)
75.0 1 John Casey John Casey
