I lost both of my pads earlier this spring. Though I found one of them, the other disappeared without a trace. At least it gave me a good excuse to finally redo the whole cockpit interior. I also increased the depth of the pads, but I also had the upolsterer attach a set of straps to the bottom of the pads. I then put upolstery snaps on each of these straps and on the bottom side of the engine hatches. The pads aren't going anywhere now, and the flexibility of the vinyl still lets me get my hand under the pads to pull the hatches open.

Something to keep in mind on noise laws; most of them grandfather in vintage boats prior to a specified yr. For example in NJ its 90 db after 1971. Also there is usually a distance like 90 db at 100 ft. The fish fuzz should now this but don't count on it. Most of them don't have a db meter or know the details of the law. I had a 71 Donzi sweet 16 when the law came out in NJ and I took great pleasure
educating every fuzz nut that stopped me that first yr.
