Im Mange from Sweden. I have a 1989 312 Stinger. In nice original shape. But now this stock 330 Merc will be replaced with 502MPI. Its my 4th CC. the first one was a 230 Scorpion, the second a 245LTD and the third one was a great 222 Stinger with a BBC.

Re: chris craft owners!

I just stumbled across this page and I'm stoked that i did. Last March i bought a stinger 222. Its in pretty rough shape cosmetically, but I was able to get use out of it this past summer. I had the stringers replaced and reinforced and I replaced the manifolds and risers and so forth, but overall i love the boat. My plan is to restore it, but I've found already that original replacement parts are hard to come by. I hope i can get some good advice over the next few months from some of you guys who are more experienced in restoring stingers. This year is going to be a paint/upholstery/wiring year, and next year is going to be when i replace 350/alpha combo with a 454/bravo combo.

century29, thats exactly what i'm doing to mine.....though i'm trying to do it all at once over this winter! :D I'm actually making a custom molded dash to fit monster gauges in it right now. I'm gonna try and take some pics of it tonight of my progress and post some "spy shots" of it for everyone to see :D Should be a fun boat when done! I cant wait :D

fund razor,

Yea, I'd like to see what you did mainly in the cockpit area. I put some nice drivers in the cabin and am happy with the sound there. I just turn it off when I'm running because the cockpit is horrible.

Re: chris craft owners!

We can fix you up.

I didn't spend a lot of money.
But the end results is awesome.
I have a pic at home (I'm at work) that shows the tweet in the dash.

I will have to take a couple pics of the side panels I made next time I go to the boat, which will be a couple weeks.

The cabin was easy. I just used a couple 5.25s running off of the head unit.
The amps just run the cockpit stuff.
That way when you are moored or docked you can run the cabin with little power consumption and have the amps off.

Do you have a sub?

Island Time 12-29-2004 12:55 PM

Re: chris craft owners!

No sub but have plenty of amps and can build whatever I need. I havent found a place to put one yet. Was thinking about replacing the useless sink and using the space under there. I built a 6.5" version of the deathbox (See www.decware.com) but is still to big to fit under the back seat.

Re: chris craft owners!

Yeah. I am hip to that box.

I used to be in audio. I don't talk about it on OSO much, because there are already good audio guys here. But I ran a high end custom shop in Ohio for a while, and also did live sound/concert system design and install for a few years. Even mixed some big shows.

I am more of a natural bass guy. If the subs are booming, then it's because the whole system is rocking. I don't like thump and sizzle systems.

I have a Jeff Rowland Design Group Concentra at home, with Audio-Physic speakers.
(Rega Planet front end)

The system on the boat sounds as natural as the audiophile system at home.
Mostly because of placement. But I have good amps and drivers, too.

The sub I am using is the (passive) Bazooka dual voice coil 8 inch.
With a hefty MTX amp.
No complaints. Have never run out of gas, so to speak.

Awesome, finally a section for Chris Crafts. I've got an 87 260 stinger I bought without motors.I built 2 355's with sr torquer heads, hyd roller cams, performer rpm intakes and quadrajet carbs.Hope to get it wet by April.Any reconmendations on props? The boat had 1 23 pitch stainless prop in the bilge when I bought it so I'm guessing that's was on the boat before.Any guess's on speed?

Hi Magnum,

I too have an 87 Stinger 260. It has two OMCs, original 5.7s.

Mine is propped ok for cruising, both RH Rapture 23s I believe. I wanna say 23, because I feel like I am overpropped when I go for top speed. I can only get about 4100 rpms WOT with those props at 52mph gps. But my cruise is about 40+mph gps at 2800. Which is really good economy for a 3 ton resin bucket. I know that if I put 21s on there I could twist em faster and get more top speed. But I don't have thru hulls either.

I think that member Glassdave (1985 scorpion 260) gets about 60 mph gps. Maybe he will chime in when he gets back in town. He has slightly hopped up SBCs and alpha drives. His aren't counter-rotating either.

I have leaky (exhaust, external) manifold gaskets, so I think when I pull those in the Spring I might do intake manifolds too (mostly for cosmetics) and maybe try some cams that Dave has. Gonna leave my points in there and not switch to electronic ignition. I would also like to switch to a Livorsi style control set up. I have combo sticks.

If I have any drive issues I will probably go with Volvo SX drives instead of Alphas.

Here's the resin bucket now.

The guy I bought it from did. he had a buddy who owned a trim shop. So he did a lot to the interior. He changed the colors from that yellow/red/black stripe package to purple/lighter purple (pinkish, but it works), and silver.

he did the stripes on the hull, and also carried those colors on the backs of the bolsters. And in those forward pointing arrow stripes near the back seat.

We're upgrading our dash and gauges this winter. Throttle and shift levers next year. Looking forward to seeing how the windscreen turns out. Will be bringing it home and laying glass the last week of January (heading to Vegas next week otherwise it would be next week).

Great looking boats! Mine is an '87 260 and is run exlusively on Lake Conroe in TX. I've always wanted to take it offshore out of Galveston, but so far I've never found the time. I've owned it since '99 and still love it. We put two new 350's and Alpha Gen II drives on it in 2000, and we have not had a problem one with it. My only gripe with it is it has an ugly porpose tendency if I try to run it clean with the tabs up. If I can find a way to eliminate the porpose, It would be perfect. If anyone else's setup gave them this problem, how did you fix it?? We area currently running with Mirage props.

Thanks man.

I have to admit, it is a nice looking boat.

Which is good, because with a top speed of about 55, people get a longer chance to see it. :D

just stumbled on this site and wanted to show off my very amazing little Scorpion 230 Its all orginal with only about 75 hours on the boat and motor..I found it north of Toronto owned by a very old gentleman who literally never used it..it sat in a boat house with two separate covers keeping the interior like new..The Bimini top has never been on the boat.

I have some work to do this winter but I am starting with a really nice little boat..let me know your thoughts

thanks

1985 Stinger 390. Just bought it last spring. It had twin 1000 HP blower motors installed when I purchased and it went over 100 MPH. I prefered reliability over extreme speed so swopped out the supercharger engines for twin 450 hp 454's. Still finishing the setup, and having lots of fun with it. I wanted this boat since I saw it on tv when I was a kid. She is in pretty good shape with some interior updating needing to be done. Sunpads are missing from the photo's but have blue stripes to match up to the back seat. It is a rewarding project for sure and the fulfillment of a lifelong dream for me.

For the windshield simply built a frame with real thin wood, glass over it but mold it (at least the front of wshield) with the boat. Mine was only screwed with silicon joint but from jumping wawes the screw would not hold tight.

Dunno about how much butt kickin we'll do but we'll be a lil bigger and a lil faster fer sure. Prolly be a project boat.
So far I can only find lil fast boats or big slow boats anyway near my lil budget. Gonna try and sell our big ol motorhome to help fund the cause too.
