Can you explain that a little further? There are plenty of painters out there that paint Cigs with a logo on it. Are you just talking about new boats???

But when I read your post I think of the situation Fountain is in right now. Some dealers have stopped taking them in on trades because the market is so flooded. They cant move the used boats. Skip is smart to not want to get into a situation like this...If in fact that is what he's doing.

And by the way, I think when you're talking dealers Phil is in a different plane all together. Lip-Ship Cigs ARE the cream of the crop flag ship Cigarettes. I highly doubt Cigarette would change that.

Tank,
I agree, Lip-Ship's work and service is truely world class as an independent. Skip if he wants to control the brand will be going more inhouse (less sublet) and if he sees another income stream and truly control the quality on the used end it would be a natural for a 'mfg' to have this control. With that he can retain resale values even more for use used Cig owners and boost the brand image even more. I believe there is enough business out there for Skip (only if quality/service is #1) and Phil to continue the 'Product life cycle' to the next level. It will benefit us all w/a 'Certified(factory) level of Cigarette'. It could even be a seperate franchise endorsed by Cig with cert rules and stds. I think Donzi at one time in the 80's tried to do this but did not follow through. The correct dlr body w/ dlr incentives and factory support can make it happen and create a new industry-its is working very well in the car business...in fact used certified (mfg only) pre owned automobiles has a margin that exceeds 3X that of new units....
Rumor has it retailers love the preowned business.

I find that hard to believe, that would be like in the body industry painting a Mercedes and having to leave off the emblem as the shop isnt a mercedes shop. If all he is doing is recreating the logo, thats not infingement for personal profit, its just replacing what was on there.

There were restrictions made by Cig. That TAOD is not aloud to reproduce a Cigarette logo any more. We tired to get our truck done to match the boat. Skip took all the Cigarette rights back when they parted ways. Skip told us no. He told us to go elsewhere. He said Dean will never paint a Cig logo again. End of story. A TAOD Cig will never be painted again with a Cigarette logo.
