Re: Shorties on a cafe?
SKRAMER,
I saw a cafe for sale in boat trader in California that said it had shorties. It did not look like it in the photos but you might want to call the guy and ask. If you do not mind, post what you find out. ROb |
Re: Shorties on a cafe?

Re: Shorties on a cafe?

Re: Shorties on a cafe?
It is in the OSO classifieds, 1993 Cafe $82000.
http://www.offshoreonly.com/esvon/page-11006.html The boat trader ad must have expired. Good luck :drink: |
Any info on this subject yet! Still thinking about it!! Thanks!

i raised the x dimension on mine when i converted to Bravos. boat breaks loose getting on plane but not too bad. 425hp running 26" Bravo I props and turning just under 5000rpms, the boat runs 68-69mph. props are spinning outward.
i still havent tried to wring it out, but my first impression is that I need more bow lift. boat requires a lot of trim...and i havent decided if it was that way before the conversion or not... any ideas on how to get more bow lift? I really dont want to switch to 3 blade props, but i think it is worth a try... |

my 99 top gun is realy a cafe hull no notch like a top gun i put 2inch short sport master lowers didnt like to get on plane then i put a one inch spacer didnt make it much better changed the way it got on plane instead of walking it up i had to push the throtttle to about 3,000rpm and wait for the props to start to bite know i put a 2 inch spacer its a little better we called mercury race division they said the older cigs dont like the sportmaster lowers with out boxes on the boat the sport lower they said makes it harder to get on plane i am back at the stock hieght and still doesnt get on plane like it did with reg lowers but once on plane runs nice. i might do boxes over the winter dont know yet .

Try some hydromotive 4 blades may lift the bow more, or turn the props inward.

Getting my 2" shortie tomorrow. We'll see how they work.

let us know how it works out i put the 2 inch spacers in my shorties to help get it back on plane they say it has to do with the cav plate not on the lower

25 p 4 blade hydros...... |
Bolted the shorties on yesterday!!! Almost there!!!

I put a pair of 1 inch shorter drives on a 2001 35 ft cig and they work great on the top end but are crap out of the hole. I am going to put spacers in them for the customer to get back to stock height. At least if you dont like them you can put spacers on them and the lower unit back to stock. The lowers will give more mph because they are more hydrodynamic. Good luck with yuor project I hope this helped a little.

3 vs. 4 blade
I was at the factory last month and I asked Tim whats was up with the design of the cafe - I just can't find the sweet spot with my 25P mirages, I can't get the bow up enough and keep the drives in the water.
He said 3 blade are not the setup on a Cafe - no Stern lift and to put some 4 bravos on it. I am running 572 EFI Gellners w/675 HP. I am way under propped with that kind of power and can blow them out up to 4500 RPM. I sure would like to get rid of my props and try some 28 Bravos. If anyone want to trade let me know Keep me posted on the project and let me know if you need co-pilot Greg in Rocky River |

I have to lean it out a tad, running 573 C.I. 4.565 X 4.375 . I have AZSM throttle bodies and 50lbs injectors running 525 EFI fuel mgt. My starboard motor was rebuilt by Gellner and the other one is going in the shop soon. I am hoping for 79MPH and 80 in perfect conditions. I did see 75 last time out, but the motors/props are way off. Keep me posted on the shorties. I would think you could run your 4 blades but never 3 with that setup. My Cafe needs its ass out of the water big time and You still got me on looks! Are you running 27 or 26 props - I am shooting for 28's, then I think that all a cafe is worth based on engine/ROI Greg - |
